what rpm should a diesel engine idle at?

My mate says his car (Pug 306 Diesel) is idling too fast @ 1100rpm... What's the concenus, and what could be wrong........

i would have said about 850 for them has it had any work done on it if so check where the cable goes into the pump and youll see a large clip on what looks like a plastic thread, take that of and see if it drops as it mat have been put one notch too far so cable is tight

My 306 D Turbo sits at 1000.

If you don't like it adjust it. No hard and fast rule either way. Just find a speed it is happy at.
