I couldn't believe how shocked i was when i was into rallying on the TV,(time of the S1,s,Integrales etc)i went down my local high street,a large clothing store was down the end of the street, what was parked up?A red S1!!,i couldn't believe it!It just looked so short, wide, stocky and mean.A 14 year old car nut with his dream car just appearing in front of him. Then it got better,i ran into the shop where the car was parked and asked if they knew who owned it?Chap i spoke to said "me!",mmm i thought, got chatting. He could see i was visibly shaking lol.He said do you want to go for a run?Well, even if you're a raving paedo i'll take my chances i thought to myself! What a machine,he went on to say it was his third one!!I have never seen a car with so much road presence,it was stunning!

Oh wow, would love to drive one to see what they are really like. Shant be asking for a test drive though.
Definatley one for the 10 car collection
I've driven one; it was the most evil handling car I've ever driven. OK, so it was on hand-cut slicks on a damp road but even so, it was nastiness on wheels.Definatley one for the 10 car collection
Apparently the Audi works rally drivers also hated them.

It's also not an S1. Only the rally cars were called S1 and even then the rally equivalent of that one would have been an A2.
Errm yes and no...Its not a S1 its a Sport quattro. The rally equivalent is the S1. Thats what it was named in its homologation. The later big winged monster is an S1 E2.The original Ur "long" quattro was homologated into group 4, then into group B. The early group 4 cars had aluminium wings, doors and bonnets with grp boot lids. Then when group B was introduced the first wide arched cars, somethimes refered to as an A1 came with composite wings, quarters and bonnets followed by the A2 which had composite doors, different fuel injection, more power etc etc...
The works drivers at the time much prefered the stability and handling of the A2 and would have loved the S1's 20v engine in a long car as the shorty's were nervous and twitchy...
