Mystery object in footwell

Went over a bump the other day and the panel above the passenger footwell fell down and deposited a whole load of wiring, fuseblock, ECU etc on the floor. Whilst attempting to stuff it all back in the hole, I discovered this



dangling from the top of the bulkhead! It's a metal bracket with a rubber pad and three very loose plastic angles (looks like there should be four!) bolted to it. My best guess was it's to hold the fuse block, but I couldn't see how, so I took it out...weight saving!

Anyone know what it's for???

You're right, is the fuse and relay box bracket. I haven't yet seen one with the fuse block fixed to it, mind - most of them just have the wiring stuffed up there till the cover fits.

Well, thanks for that tvrgit. How on earth the fuse block ever fastened to this I can't imagine!
I would quite like to tidy things up under there, but it's such a pain in the neck (literally) I really can't be bothered - I'll stick to the customary 'stuff it in, close the lid and forget it' approach instead!!

If it's any consolation, it's much more sophisticated than the method used to hold the fuse board on an S2.

Yes, it is the fuse/relay mounting plate, and what a rubbish job it is indeed! Those three plastic bits are actually designed to slide into the fuse/relay block and have dovetailed edges to slide into slots. I remade mine in alloy as it was quite rusty, waste of time, the block still fell off! At least the new, better designed, alloy base now provides some location holes for cable ties!The new mounting is attached to the wiper mounting plate which makes it a touch easier to get to. Wasn't the original mounted to one of the bonnet catch mounting bolts? If so do you have a nut missing off one of these?

OOPS!!!

Didn't think to check if the (loose) nut holding the bracket was doing anything else!!! So, yes, currently I DO have a nut missing (no jokes please...)
