After less than 3 weeks of owning my 360 Spider, it has been keyed. About 10 nasty scratches on the passenger door and rear passenger wing. Gutted to say the least. Whilst inspecting the damage a kindly cyclist even told me 'cars like that deserve to get damaged'.........

Does anyone know a good bodyshop near West London? I've seen a recommendation for Acton Coachworks, they're not too far and seem to deal with F-cars. Anyone have any experience with them or can anyone suggest a good alternative? Many thanks in advance.

Sorry for the bad news, People work hard to aspire to own nice things.

How deep are the scratches?

If paintwork is required we use a fantastic bodyshop Nr Oswestry in Shropshire (Long way to travel) they take a lot of care and bake all their paintwork to stop sinking they do all of my cars which need attention.

I personally would see if the polishing route could be taken first mind, as once you paint a car its never the same, its amazing how deep a scratch can be removed.

Feel free to email me if I can help any more - details on my profile.

Did the cyclist actually stop to say that to you?

I'd have filled the tt in.

I feel for you, I've seen too many BMW's come into the bodyshop as they've been keyed. Jealous little fkers.

Going the insurance route: I have a 500 GBP excess on the policy, so am not sure if its worth claiming. All depends on how much it costs, if its like 700 GBP then dont think its worth claiming. If its a lot more then will go down that route. Have no real reference point about what repainting or even polishing (if thats possible) 2 panels may cost as haven't had to do it before. Any thoughts roughly?

One of the scratches on the passenger door is deep and goes from one end to the other parallel to the window and up to the catch - really noticeable. The rear panel scratches are lighter.

I was very, very tempted to smack the cyclist: she was about 50 and would have gone down pretty easily !! Have parked my 2 previous 911's on the same street without incident; guess the spider somehow arouses more hostility. What scumbags.

The problem with paint is knowing where to stop to blend in, Even with a deep scratch it is possible to polish out as long as theirs some paint left to work with Get a pro to take a look.

If its a whole door I would say your quote would probably come in around your excess amount, If its the side of the car its a totally different matter.

Sorry to hear about your troubles - I'd love to meet someone who scratcehs cars, not least to hear WHY you'd do that?

In response to the cyclist, she sounds like a complete idiot. Again, why would you bother saying that? Even as a calm individual, I think that would have let rip some verbal abuse. As a cyclist, I can assure you not everyone in the saddle are car haters.

posted on PCGB, I quote

Gents - had my vandal scratches repaired by Steve at Chipsaway in Reading yesterday, and as promised, I'm reporting back.

Anyway, he has done an absolutely fantastic job - it is perfect! I have looked as closely as I can, from different angles and in different lights and it is absolutely spot on, to my eye at least.

Steve is a good bloke too, very helpful, explained exactly what they did. I have no hesitation in recommending him. I just hope I don't have to see him again too soon!

AND

The above 3 questions in turn, yes I do have "before" pictures but no "after" pictures yet. They're too big to upload but if anybody wants to see them, drop me an email. Trust me, it is perfect. If anybody wants to inspect it, I live in Marlow and work in Bracknell and am happy to receive an inspection.

He charged me £270 + Vat and that included a scratch at the back of the near side rear wheel arch that I hadn't actually spotted myself (he did call me before repairing that too, which I thought was courteous). That was after a 10% discount that PCGB members receive so would have been £300 obviously.

Contact details are all on www.chipsawayreading.co.uk

He also had an '05 Carrera S silver convertible in too on Friday, as well as a Boxter (dark blue I think). Was it you?! His diary is absolutely chocca, and it seemed he had Aston's in every day from the dealership around the corner.

I can promise you, I have never met the bloke before, I'm just a bit old fashioned and appreciate good, courteous service and a professional job!

Thank you andyuk911

I seriously beleive you should examine this route, We remove most scratches ourselves and I think this is a far better route than painting if you can. Good luck, please don't let it spoil your enjoyment of the car, its not the cars fault - a very sad person did this.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Whilst I don't own a Ferrari, I do aspire to own such a vehicle and always appreciate them on the road. This kind of behavior imo is pure jealously and not something that should be tolerated.

I don't care if it's exotic supercar or clapped out shed it's not your property to damage... I would be fuming!!

Anyway if it does require paint, the whole side of the car tends to be painted so they can get the blend in right. I'm guessing 1k - 2k for the job. I had a Civic which had a bump on the drivers door, they ended up fitting a new door skin and painting the whole side. It was just over 1k to repair.

I've mentioned a company called Autotechnics before on the forum, based in Bray. They are approved Ferrari bodyshop and could be worth a visit.

ns1 - I know exactly how you feel. I had my black 3200GT keyed just over a year ago. One single scratch, right down to the metal, from headlight through door to tail light. On the GT there are no seperate panels, other than bonnet boot and doors, so I ended up with the whole body shell being repainted, with all seals and windows removed. It took a couple of months to get it back, but as there was no blending I was more comfortable with how the repare would be in the long term. If you go down the route, then obviously insurance is the answer - it will cost thousands. From my limited knowledge of the 360, I believe you have more panel breaks, so should be somewhat less work.
I guess my only advice is to take as much of a positive from the experience as possible - moments like these just confirm that you are doing well enough in life as to cause massive jelousy in others. You may have to repare your car, but the lowlife that did it has a lifetime of dole-cheques, petty criminal charges and involuntary jail-based anal sex ahead of him. Chin up.

Can try a chap called Shane @ Prestige in Chertsey or thereabouts. He did some work on my Maserati Spyder. Worth a punt. Decent chap.
