I need to get to the bottom of this problem! My oil and temperature gauges both dance around in sync with one another over bumpy road surfaces or at speed, oil gauge reading falls and temperature gauge rises and vice versa, presume this is a loose/dirty connection somewhere, do these gauges share an earth?if so where could i find it? would like some advice before i start losing the skin off my hands and booking the spinal board getting the dash apart? thanks in advance

I have a similar problem where all three gauges(minus the clock)sweep over to max or just under for no reason for a couple of minutes at a time(bit alarming at 1st)i did ask on here if they have some kind of voltage regulation(like most production cars)that was breaking down(thus overvolting the gauges) but was told the Chim does not eek to be honest i have not looked into this properly yet(been to busy)a fauty earth should cause the gauges to fall not rise so i think this is gonna be fun,if i find a cure i will let you know(thats if this is your problem too)i even checked the alternator output because i thought my not very old unit was overcharging causing said fault but it was not so thats a relief laughthe joys of Tivving rolleyes

Which guages go full scale deflection when the signal line is earthed? It maybe a dodgy connector block?

Yep, and my blower only works if I whack the top of the dash (and then goes off at the next bump). Looking at the service history it's been like that from new!

I had the same problem with my chim,it was a bad earth, which is located on top of the gear box tunnel.hidden under the carpet, the easy way to it is with a stanley knife and a17mm spanner. if you feel just under the dash at the top of gearbox tunnel you should feel a half moon cut out in the fiberglass under the carpet the earth bolt is there.happy huting

UPDATE had the top of my dash off friday to trace earth circuit from gauges, remade earth and now i have perfectly working gauges and a CD player that does not shut down randomly hehe so if your gauges are randomly overeading check the earth attached to the top of the trans tunnel.

I had this problem and fixed it by cleaning up the earth connection that sits under the front offside wheel arch where all the muck and salt accumulates.
