Did a search, but only found two or three topics, all of which said, yes its possible to weld them, and yes you can get them out with the engine in place. Both things though are comforting to know.

What I'd like to know is... Does anyone know roughly how much it'll be just to weld them? Removal I can do myself.

Secondly, how is this likely to affect the running of the engine. I assume the cracks could lean out the exhaust gases, cause a mis-reading on the lambda and therefore the ECU will try and richen the mixture.

Both manifolds have gone between the 2nd and 3rd branch! crywoohoo

They dont need specialist welding like cast manifolds,as they are made from mild steel.Any good welder should be able to do them.

Sweet!! I could do that myself then! I've heard about bracing, is this across the 2nd and 3rd branch?

Just make sure you disconnect the battery first, otherwise any welding can blow the ECU / alteranator diode pack etc

Usually go between 2-3 1-4 it may look small but the cracks usually run all the way round the back.

A bit of sheet metal between the runners as a brace and removal of any sharp edges on welds will assist in preventing further cracks.

These cracks are quite hard to get to with the manifolds still on the car, it could be done, but the quality of the welds would probably suffer as a result, so I'll be removing the manifolds to do the work.

Is it worth bracing across all the branches?
