Hi all,

Well after a very long wait (I have always dreamed of owning a TVR) I will be picking up a T plate Chim 4.0 on Friday.

Quick question though, if someone could be so kind ...

I will be changing the registration to a private plate and need to get some new plates made up.

Just had a thought though - are the Chim's plates screwed/bolted on, or are they stuck with glue/tape?

Looked through the Bible, but can't see any mention.

Hope someone can help.

Best regards,

Simon

Congrats great choice.......
The plates are both screw on, online you can get them at www.fancyplates.com beware that the rear one needs to let the light behind it light up the plate

On a 99 I believe they will be screw on at the front and adhesive pads at the back.

Backlit isnt a problem as they stopped doing that in the later models...

I just bought new plates from fancyplates.com in Ireland - they have a good website & you get the plates without the makers name on the bottom (apparently it's law in the UK now - so if you go to Halfrauds or similar, it'll have that along the bottom!) I have an older model than you and I slightly lowered my front plate to help airflow (screwed on) and the rear plate was screwed on but this time I used the sticky pads supplied (because the screws would have spoiled the look) A 95 model also has a 'backlit' honeycombe plate - I think yours is different? but fancyplates do these too and most places don't!

good luck, enjoy the car and take care!

Thanks for the replies.

I found the fancyplates web site, and thought I'd go for a "custom" design - keeping standard fonts, but adding the TVR Logo, Euro Stars, Union Flag and GB.

After searching the forums, I "think" this will remain legal (just ???).

Must get a fancy set for my everyday car - a scooby. Maybe I'm a bit sad, but the only difference between the two cars registrations will be the year letter.

TVR - T*** SMG, Scooby Y*** SMG, both beasts of cars if you get my drift.

Can't wait until Friday when the Chim comes to daddy. It's going to be a very looonnnngggg weeeeeek.

Thanks again,

Si

Consensus seems to be that the front is screwed on, but the rears may be stuck, may be screwed

In the event that they are stuck - what's the best way to remove them without taking the paint off.

Thanks,

Si

Just a word of warning. You can purchase plates that screw to the car and use double-sided pads to attach the front plate. I did this because plates look better without screws. Problem is there is no simple way to remove them and the plate restricts access to the air filter and other bits & bobs in the nose cone. My front plate was damaged during routine service

They will be screwed or stuck - depends on who fitted the plates!!

If the rear is stuck on, the way to get it off is with care! Not too difficult, just prise it away gradually, you are very unlikely to damage the paint (unless yo use a crow-bar!).
