Pond skater/Water boatman

Don't know what this is, or even if there is a difference between a pond skater and a water boatman, or if those are just two names for the same thing.

Anyway, I recently bought a 50mm f/1.8 for my Canon 40D as everyone raves what a cracking lens it is for the money, and I've just been playing around with it.
