bmw automatic gearbox

hi im buying a 1997 bmw 318 convertable and was just wondering what the buttons S,E and M stand for and do to the car? im guessing its SPORT ECONOMY but no sure what M stands for and probly just changes what rpm it shifts gears at?? thankyou, dan.

Manual. It will hold the revs until you select the next gear.
