Evening all

Had her almost 4 months now but still suffering the TVR paranoia....

Recently began hearing what can only be described as a whirling sound (like the sound you got if you had an Injection when starting up - well my dad's old orion injection ghia did certainly!) from the back of the car by the exhausts (although sounds like is coming from the dash area when windows are closed!?)

It is quite loud while the engine is on (i.e. can hear a murmur of the whirl when gentle using the loud pedal) but can be heard on it's own when you are starting the car e.g. 3 turn process when starting car. Turn once and the display comes alive. Turn again and it just pre ignition then final turn to to turn over and fire the engine. It is at this second turn that the whirling sounds can be very clearly heard on it's own (as i say it is like an injection engine preparing to start) for about 2-3 secs before going off (that is if you delay turning the key one last turn to start engine).

Apologies for the rather rambled description but it is the only way i can do it!

Has anyone else heard this sound or know what it is?! It doesn't get any louder as you work the engine - really sounds like just soemthing working away but rather loudly...

Am concerned it is a noise that shouldn't be there hence asking around.

Thanks for all your help

Is there any chance what your hearing is the whine of the fuel pump? it starts when the ignition is on and car immobilised, only on my car i have de-cats and sports pipes so the noise is drouned out by exhaust barbles...

that def sounds like it

when immobilsed it doesn't come on so think you prob right (you'd be able to hear yours if you didn't turn the engine actually over...?)

guess it a case of usual TVR paranoia then....?

not sure how loud it should be you see....

I also think it sound like the fuel pump. I'd just ignore it. If you start listening for noises you'll hear all sorts & worry yourself to an early rebuild!

If it's a deeper humming noise, could it be the interior fan? Think I'd had my car over a year before I realised it could be switched off...

By pushing the fan button once will turn the interior fan off.....push it again and its back on.

But it sounds more likely that it is the fuel pump.

stop worrying and enjoy the driving

You can worry when it breaks and only then

its mechanical so of course it will break at some point so why needlessly worry when you could be having fun

oh and it sounds like all three of mine have when you start them.....fuel pump or summit

Could also be the PAS pump I believe. When my relay went there was an absence of whirring - along with absence of PAS!

Hi Ian,

Should take RG about a month to put the engine together so end of July sometime. I'll only lose it for about a week for them to bolt it in.

I will test drive a Tusc/Sag to be sure I like the way the 4.0l lump drives then decide on upgrading to 4 or not. Let's be honest..... I'll go for the bloody 4.0l!!

I'll get them to cost up blueprinting and full balancing too so hopefully I'll do that too. Lightened flywheel, new clutch.

Other than that it will be th"standard" Racing Green upgrade package covering improved this, that and the other. I do have the details of the component improvements if you want me to mail them; might actually beon their website. They will do me a breakdown/set of costings so I'll let you have them too.

At some stage I do hope to go for the 3.9 diff too, maybe at the same time or maybe later.

They have a lovely trick manifold too, but I have to stop somewhere. Well, Jules says I do.....

Anyway, Spain should be good with it next year.

Yes, Zolder will be on the cards next year I hope; work, money and family trauma allowing.

I'm in Mank using a PDA now so will email what I've got so far when I have internet access on my laptop. If I haven't done so by Friday evening PM me with a reminder.

Have a chat with PHer 'JohnRB' - he's got a Sagaris and last time I saw him post he had been waiting a looonnng time for RG to rebuild his engine and give him his car back (not sure of the extent of his problems). Might help you 'time' when to send yours in for its transplant.

In my experience, with several versions I've now tried, Dulfords at Exeter can be relied upon to supply higher-spec engines or uprate your own, quite promptly and on time.

Which is nice smile
