Drive Flanges of LSD Diff

I recently bought an LSD Diff at very short notice and took a risk on the Diff being suitable for my S3. Its from a 2WD Cosworth and popular opinion was it was a straight swap although Jed did warn about the 100 vs 108 dia flanges... guess what ? the LSD Diff has the larger flanges

It does feel like a good Diff and mine is making a noise (or is it the gearbox ???) so I would like to fit it...

I can see on page 4 of the Scorpio Diff Overhaul manual

that to remove the drive flanges is a simple (?) matter of removing the end cover and popping out the retaining clips from each shaft.

Now... my question is does anyone know if the shaft diameter is the same on my 100 dia flange Diff or are the shafts a bigger diameter too ?

Remaining options would be:
1 - flog the LSD Diff as it is
2 - Replace the whole drive shafts for the larger ones (same length and hub/bearing etc ??)
3 - start taking LSD...

anyone done it ? the diff mods that is, not the tripping

You forgot option 4 buy a car to fit the LSD

Mine has (i'm told) an LSD fitted...I'm not sue what was involved to fit it, but could you ot just change the inner CV joints to suit the diff flanges?

If you wnt me to get some photos/measurements off mine I can do.

Cheers Ant, yes thats what I'm hoping to do but knowing my luck the shaft diameters will be different... if the drive flanges are interchangeable, Ive cracked it.. perhaps

It is a stupid idea to drill another set of holes in your rear prop flange in between the existing holes to engage the new flange?

I feel that prop coming off again!

Its the output flanges to the drive shafts that are giving me grief Chris... Jed made mention of the different flanges out there and warned that we need the 100 mm flanges on our Tivs... the seller didnt know how to measure the diameter and as the listing was coming to an end with no other bidder (fatfinger.com might have found the listing as she listed it as a Serria diff ) so I just bought it anyway. but as luck would have it ...

Thats why I'm hoping the drive flanges (to the drive shafts) are interchangeable as it doesnt look too bad a job to swap em over...

Ah I see.
Last time you asked something about flanges I posted the diameter of the input flange which on mine was 108mm.
My diff is off the car - I can measure anything you want, if its of any value measuring the V8 diff.

No worries Chris and thanks for the offer but I guess its the internals that will need measuring which I can do by stripping both Diffs - but if someone knows they are gonna be different diameters before i start then I could save myself the hassle...

I hoping that I can simply change over the drive flanges from my diff to the "new" one and Roberts your fathers brother as they say...

I've asked the question on the Sierra Owners Club as well... (I havent yet joined the serria club )
