There's one snatch though: as we all know the filter is there. Most of us wite things like 'f

A 'snatch' if it is turned off unilaterally maybe, but surely if there were an on/off button the grown-ups could make their own choice on whether to read naughty words in their entirity or with [censored] through the middle of them?

I think it's a good idea too...
- Having the big red blobs of the
smiley in the middle of words just breaks up the text and makes it lumpy to read.
- The filter smashes case - the initial and final letters of the censored version are always in lower case whether or not it is appropriate in the context. This also makes it lumpy to read.
- Several of the words which are censored are just bloody silly choices and people often complain about it. You can't talk about dog breeding or steel making properly, and the first time I saw "w
e" it took me a while to work out what the f
k it was meant to be.
The swear filter protects PH from having those words indexed in search engines. Also as the forum is open to anyone to read it would be irresponsible of us to show swear words without censorship in case of young eyes viewing the site. So the censor is in place for those reasons and why we are looking at allowing members to turn swear word filter off in the future. I expect it will be used by a lot of people though I feel the art of describing emotion and feeling in text is being lost.

saddened that some people are unable to express themselves without resorting to swear words, guess Paul Hogan is one of these individuals ?
You guess wrong. I simply object to censorship in all its forms. I would prefer to read what people say and on the odd occasion when I’m moved to cuss I’d like people to read what I wrote not a censored version of it.To be honest I don’t see the point of censorship and especially when there are enough clues left to work out the original word. For example f**k is not going to be ‘fork’ is it? It would take someone of monumental stupidity not to read the text as f
k (and as if to make my point the word has now been censored for you). So why censor it? And also you may note that in fact I did not call for the censor to be removed just to have the option for the grown ups amongst us to be able to turn it off.Edited by PaulHogan on Saturday 5th July 18:17
i know what it means, u know what it means and more to the point the search engines know what it means
so when u have people with nanny software be it universities, schools and family and have a bunch of todger tickling muppets cover a forum in profanities, the forum gets blocked from these people due to the profanities in use
guess you have to be inventive, try using non swear words that mean the same as what you are trying to convey, instead of having every other word blotted out
