help i have a 2.8 and it driving me bonkers it starts fine runs for 2/3 seconds then cuts out i have replaced pump filters checked fuel pipes i have swopped metering unit cold start valve and all the other sensors on the system tried new coil plugs and leads also when i get it running with the throtle open the exhaust and tail pipes become red hot any info thanks

You are running lean, very lean to get that sort of heat.

Fuel pressure check.

Flow rate check too. (proves from tank to Fuel Dist.)

If you need the specs just ask.

hi jeff i have by passed feed from starter and run a live feed from the battery and fuel is pumping a good flow even the return to tank seems ok

Flow should be 750ccs in 30 seconds taken at return. Engine cold of course smile much safer.

System pressure 73.7 psi +/- 6

Control pressure warm without vacuum 42 +/- 3
with vac 52 +/- 3

Injector op pressures 46 - 51

Looking at the residual pressure may give you clue what is happenning.
36 after 10 minutes
29 after 20 minutes

If you do not meet the last two then there is a leak. These cars should start first click on residual pressure.

Look for missing washers on fuel unions. O ring of the pressure reg (front of the Fuel dist.)
