I was clocked doing 69 in a 60, overtaking on a long strait piece of clear road. I saw the van in the distance when I began my arduous slingshot (Corsa 1.4) , but had to commit at that point because any evasive manoeuvring would’ve been confusing for the person I was overtaking, and besides, I assumed the police would dismiss it on the grounds of common sense and decency.

Three days later I got the notice of intended prosecution, together with a cheery little flyer from Warwickshire Constabulary that aimed to dispel the myths relating to speed cameras and their uses. It failed miserably. Their PR sucks.

Does anyone know if there’s anything I can realistically do? Or is it just a case of bending over? I can’t really afford to go to court, which I resent because I suspect I’m being screwed. Shall I send off the initial details as requested before attempting any type of query? Are they going to get all spiteful and increase my fine / points if I take time to explore my ‘rights’.

Ideally I’d like some way of getting an acknowledgement from an actual person. If I get a response from a sentient being telling me I’m screwed because I’ve been a very bad boy, then that would be preferable to the pre-printed bill from Robocop I’m expecting now. At least I’d know someone had given my situation some consideration, no matter how unreasonable.

69 in a 60? In a corsa? Are you insane? Theyll probably bring back flogging in public just for you!
Get your solicitor to fill the nip in but not sign it, seems to be the way to go.

I know a huge thread was done on not signing NIPs, but i havent got a spare couple of days to go through it all. What is the situation with all that...if i dont sign an NIP but fill it in, will i get away with it? Has it been done with success?

Isn't there a tolerance given when you're passing a slower vehicle. For instance, car doing 50mph, it makes sense that you get past as quickly as possibly for safety's sake, so you did 69mph for a brief spell before resuming your journey at 60mph. Do you think the camera shows you passing/having just passed the vehicle behind?

Tolerance ? Tolerance ! Nah Trefor that means giving away lots of money. Brunstroms disciples don't do toleraqnce, they do ZERO tolerance. That means 10% plus 2 mile/h in which case you exceeded it by one silly litle mile/h. The tolerance is down to the arguable accuracy of the method, nothing else.

Look at all the info on this forum about what to do theres lots here. They are just playing stupid but lucrative games, well two can play at that can't they !

noooooooo! sod confusing people, obey logic... if you SAW a camera van, abandon manueovre immediately. Nothing will get you off better than not being caught. Now you are in the clag, refuse to sign the NIP.

The way this is going "responsible" motorists will have no other option when trailing slow numpties but to hang off their rear bumper flashing like crazy until the muppets either speed up to a speed nearer the limit or move the over. Hardly encouraging safe driving is it?

Thanks for the support.

Does refusing to sign the nip actually work? I don’t want the petty officers to slap 12 points on me and kill my goat for being an insubordinate peasant. Or have [ POTENTIAL CHILD MUTILATOR ] flagged against the stuff possible employers like to look at. Has anyone actually tried it? Has anyone tried it and been screwed as a result?

Also, assuming I sign and return the nip like a good little boy, are there any subsequent opportunities to argue my case?

I noticed on the crap they sent me, that I am not within my rights to see the photographic evidence. Doesn’t that go against the data protection act? It might be photographic, but if it’s got speeds, distances and index numbers attributed to it, surely it counts as data about me? It also shows me overtaking a car with a trailer. I’d very much like to see it.

Driving home today I spent more time looking at my speedo than I did at the road. Poor wretched bunnies.
