Anyone catch Top Gear reviewing the new Evo X? Got to admit the new Subaru doesn't look all that but looked like it beat the Evo around the track.
Watching a couple of Evo vs. Subaru videos online it seems that the new Evo is lacking something? Anyone think they have compromised performance for a couple more cup holders and softer headrests? Maybe they're after M3 drivers or something.

They have a loads of good pictures and video clips of the Evo X.
If and when the MR version gets here, the Evo X will take its place at the top again.

i think you have to look at the different models etc. the evo they put on the track was a 300 as thats the closest thing to the impreza's power. don't forget they do a 360 version which is what they tested through out the entire clip and clarkson loved it!
i think it all comes down to personal opinion and what you want. i personally think the newer cars look (not driven so cant say) less of a drivers car and more refined for comfort and performance. i dont think i would swap my 6 for either of them tbh.

Have found some info on the Evo X MR in the latest Autocar...
its slightly heavier than the regular Evo X, with a bit more power and torque (230Kw/440Nm) to compensate.
The Spec-C STi Impreza on the other hand has the same power as a normal STi but they've shaved 70Kg off it in the interest of making it more driver-focussed (and Group-N focussed for that matter).
Doesn't take a rocket scientist to guess which one I'd prefer.

The old Evo 8 MR FQ-320 was two seconds faster round the track than the pair of them.
I read (in Evo, I think) that they reckon they'd take an Evo 9 (a fettled MR) over either of the two new models.
I think you have to compare like for like. So when the Evo X MR FQ-320 comes out, we have something to look at. Also, the fact that the Subaru has a 2.5 (outside Japan) litre engine and has change to a hatchback, shows they lost the Impreza/Evo battle.I read (in Evo, I think) that they reckon they'd take an Evo 9 (a fettled MR) over either of the two new models.
A mate at work just bought a WRX STi (GD/GG model); picked it up today and says he gonna start modding it in a couple of months. He took out the new one for a test drive and was too disappointed with it.
By the way and trying to be realistic, better to get a an Evo VI, VII or VIII? I went on one of those experience days and got to take an Evo VII for a spin. Now I want one!!

Ah, an Evo fanboy I take it

The Evo X MR is already out in Japan and has 310 bhp, so an FQ-320 isn't going to be much different
and still well over 1600Kg compared to the 1500 of the STi or 1430 for the Spec-C STi. I could just as easily say the fact Misti pulled out of factory-backed rallying and made the Evo X fat and soft (while Subaru switched to a more competitive body shape and focussed on making the car lighter) shows they lost the Impreza/Evo battle. By the way, the primary reason for switching to the 2.5 outside Japan was that it meets emissions regulations more easily.

The Evo X is fat and soft, at 1620 Kg I think they might be going after Audi S4 drivers...
