My experience of bike cops is that you have to be doing something pretty stupid to actually get a ticket and that they will hand out fixed penalties in circumstances where cameras etc. would likely get you banned.
While there is a bit of me that says that unmarked vehicles are ‘just not cricket’ and a marked vehicle would have a much greater impact on road users attitude, I would far rather see police on unmarked bikes than cameras (especially when the cameras are disguised as builders vans, horse boxes etc.). Additionally, cops on unmarked bikes will be subject to the same car/lorry/bus driving numpties as the rest of us and thus will be in a good position to nick them.

Excuse my naivity; aside from feeling targetted by the police; what really is there to worry about? You know. So long as your bike group isn't up to no good!
don't tell me let me guessSpeed Kills!
The poster above me however, makes a very good point about the coppers being able to "See the world like the rest of us."

in american videos i have seen "this maniac is doing 100 miles an hour", in germany my daily commute was at 140 FFS
speed dosn't kill the inability to spot idiots and the abilty to stop safely kills

B.) Exactly, so what's your beef with coppers riding along... Unless you're doing something illegal?

Actually, hitting things at speed is what generally kills, though there isn't always a guarantee either way (every pub bore knows of miraculous escapes at warp factor ten zillion and instant death at 0.2 mph). However I think the general rule of thumb is that the slower you're going if you have a collision, the greater your chance of surviving. And surely the ability to stop safely is never going to kill you?
Or did I just read that wrong...?
I would much rather know that there was a police presence on the road, even if they are unmarked. Unmarked cars have been around for donkeys years, so it had to be expected in my opinion. And if I remember correctly, there was a police stand at the bike show about 8 years ago that had a fireblade on it, so not exactly a new idea.
I just wish there was a greater presence on the roads instead of cameras. cameras only pick up people speeding, not those that are creating danger to others or tw*ts who sit in the middle lane on an empty motorway
And yes, I like a hoon just like the next guy, but you takes your chances......

Just out to ruin everyones fun lets face it! Anyone can be hypocritical and say "I abide by the speed limits" ok so why the hell do you ride a superbike capable of nealry triple the National speed limit?? Fact of the matter is that we all speed and I'm sure everyone on here has hit speeds worthy of a prison sentence at least once in their biking life. If the conditions are clear and its safe to wind your bike on I don't see the harm personally. If your wheelying past a school you deserve everything you get. But basically the police are just out having a bit of fun on a quick bike and then nicking someone at the end of it!

I'm sure everyone does speed from time to time. But doing it on the sly, and raising a thread arguing about police actively looking out for known speeding groups are hardly one in the same.I think my initial replies to this thread echo what everyone else above you has said; if you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to fear
