I find it happens when braking/coasting, then using a heavy foot to accelerate again just as it is changing down.
I've learnt to live with it and adjust my style
The (similar) one that drives me mad is pulling onto a roundabout and givinn it a bootfull then lifting off - box gets confused and stays in first then throws your noggin at the dashboard as soon as you touch the throttle!I've learnt to live with it and adjust my style

Mine does it too ..... I took it to be just something you have to put up with or learn how to avoid. Nothing is perfect. Most of the time other than that it is great.
My only issue so far has been when the mechatronic (?) control unit for the DSG box decided it didn't like my sudden change in driving style one day and shut down, going into limp home mode
It's now been reset .... until maybe the next time

Why not ask the folks on www.uk-mkivs.net - there is a mkV section and quite a few DSG owners who may offer some advice?
Yeah, sadly they all do that. I Work on them, have the same complaints all the time.
More info on DSG characteristics see here. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I found the DSG on my R32 very jerky, epecially on the R32 as it has a very sensitive throttle, but as others have said you do need to change your driving style to get the best out of it.
My A3, 3.2 is the same; a bit on/off due to combination of grabby clutch & sensitive throttle, doesn't take long to get used to though - slowly pulling up close to a wall forward can be a bit tricky, it is smoother in reverse. My wife is a little 'scared' of it and so doesn't like driving it because of this.
