Student Speeding = RESULT! 105 MPH in a 30 MPH limit!
Discussion
Just caught the end of this on the radio folks, Semir Nezirovic (Polish?) 20, of Heaton, Newcastle found guilty of driving at 105 mph in a 30 mph limit for road works!
He was in his Renault Megane and got a two month ban, 120 hours of community service and the pleasure of retaking his driving test!
They said it was in the Daily Telegraph and the Daily Mail!
That's a GOOD sentence handed out for a change eh chaps?

2 months ban and a bit of inconvenience for 105 in a 30? No where near enough and I say that as someone who is happy to push on at 170 where legal and safe in Germany.
You do yourself no favours posting this as an example of decent sentencing and I say this as someone with a similar loathing of absurd speed limits, scameras and automated speed enforcement.

I bet that was done on the coast road, where it goes from 70mph to 30mph.
Without hearing everything about it (time, conditions etc) it's impossible to say, but the contraflow is gentle at best, and if it was done early in the morning (2-3am I mean) then it is certainly achievable.
Who's to say he was caught *in* the contraflow, as the 30mph limit extends at least half a mile either side of the roadworks. Granted, at 100+ it is blatantly stupid, but I think the 105 in a 30 scenario, while true - is a bit misleading.

Good point, while 105 in a 30 looks dire in print or out of context there are a few roads I can think of that are 30 that shouldn't be 30 and where a few years ago people used to do 60 quite legally. There are even a few 30 dual carriageways nearby where high speeds are very possible. 105 is taking it too far though.... I don't go that fast on empty motorways these days let alone A roads. I think there's plenty of circumstances where 105 is not taking it too far, and empty motorway with good visibility would be a place where 105 is perfectly safe.I realise there are considerations of fuel economy or getting nicked at that speed, but that's a personal judgement thing rather than a safety thing....

He got off incredibly lightly. I was banned for 3 months for 108 on a motorway - 38mph over whereas this bloke was 75mph over..
Captain Gatso, please don't think you represent me or my views, as all in all so far, you've come across as a bit of a muppet. Paul's shoes seeming a little on the large side, are they..?

See the picture down the page!

What speed is the white car behind travelling at, and if anything is criminal, it's the fact that if he was that dangerous, why was he not stopped instead of being allowed to carry on?
At least he has to take an EXTENDED test, which I suspect many more drivers would benefit from.
Why dont the government make these extended tests compulsory for ALL as part of the normal test!!

The article is absolute b*llocks. He couldn't have been sent to prison if he was only prosecuted for speeding and he wasn't found guilty of dangerous driving because he would have had a minimum, mandatory 12 month ban.
The Mags have the power to order a retest in speeding cases.
Crap reporting at its worst.

So Captain Pratso, the motorist's version of piles, is happy that this person was caught by a mobile scamera, but not pulled over by proper police who could assess his driving properly? Captain Pratso, do yourself a favour and go back to the day job you sensationalist fool.
You are no friend of mine, just an idiot.
