Tacho miss reading

The end is near for my build and I only have two issues to fix prior to my SVA after a satisfactory rolling road yesturday with my raceline 210 duratec. The one I'm having problems sorting is the tacho miss reading the signal is being taken form the alpha ECU (purple/white wire) going to the black/white wire on the back of the tacho (top right pin on the conector) the revs start at 4000rpm and then climb of the clock as the car revs. Anyone got any ideas what the problem is? oh the car is a new 2008 starter kit with a r400 loom.
