If it is very simple and straight forward, try Abbey Business banking.

I have just signed up and it is free for life...well the life of the company. It is done mostly over the web but this should not be a problem.

you get card and cheque book as normal.

A word of warning for Abbey. They are great for a simple transactional banking requirement, but don't expect much more than that. If your business grows your banking requirements WILL get complex.

We've been with Abbey for almost six years now, but it's only really in the last 6 months that we've outgrown what they offer, our T/O is over £4m now and we need a bit more service.

I'd generally give Abbey a thumbs up. When your business gets to a £250k T/O then you can have access to the Abbey RMT (Relationship Managed Team) which gives a higher level of call-centre service than the normal accounts have.

A&L are a bunch of complete and utter morons. The moment they answered the phone I knew they weren't getting my business.

If you're planning on joining the FSB - the Co-op account offered to FSB members is free business banking for life.

Add to that the insurance policy that covers all your accountant costs in the case of an HMRC inspection, and the FSB membership fee just paid for itself, IMHO...
