GPS Camera/blackspot locator / SatNav of choice?
Discussion

Is there an integrated satnav, GPS camera spotting. blackspot, radar detector on the market right now?
Shirley someone has done this as I am in need of one (always getting lost, about to lose license for piffling speeding offences).
Could someone pass me a url?
Cheers,
Graeme.
I haven't heard of one and if you look at the thread below you can see that it can be done but as people are trying to do such a workaround there may not be such a product available. I'm sure there'd be a demand for one though if anyone could sort it out.

Origin B2.
Will do the GPS camera & laser detection.
There is an optional Radar unit, and an option (and expensive) laser blinder.
You can also purchase an adapter that will output the GPS information to your PDA (IPAQ for example) and can run software on that for navigation.
All bases covered, and probably a grand lighter.

Hmmm, B2 + iPaq is a lot of gadgetry in the car!
Also, the B2 would really just be adding laser detection as the iPaq would already have a listing of all the UK speed cameras (www.pocketgps.co.uk/uksafetycameras.asp), £500 is a lot for that. Without the iPaq it's good value but then there's no SatNav.
I guess it comes down to, if there is going to be a SatNav add on for the Road Pilot then that's the best bet. If there isn't, then it's either an iPaq/GPS/SatNav/POI and hope I don't get caught by laser, or an iPaq and a cheap laser detector.....
I seem to remember reading somewhere that by the time the detector registers a laser hit it's too late to do anything about it (ie. slow the hell down) as the gun gets an instant reading anyway? Is this true?

Unless you get lucky and pick up some scatter from a car in front of you, yes. If it goes beep, they've probably already got a reading.
Kane Car Pilot sat nav which works with iPAQs has an option to upgrade with a speed camera database.
This is completely separate to its Points Of Interest list.
www.GPS-Systems.co.uk sell this. if you already have an iPAQ it's £549 all in.

Yep, had a look at that, it ended up being iPaq + GPS Jacket + SatNav software + POI file (debatable upkeep) + POI warning software. Was difficult (even with eBayage) to get the price under £700.
I've gone with the Road Pilot. Speaking with Morpheous today there's an imminent new software release allowing perusal of all the GPS info from the trips, this could nearly double as a datalogger/trackmapper lol
