Only available in black on yellow background.

Now if they did silver letters on a black background there might be some point.

I read in another forum on PH that someone has done some test with some home made backlit plates and lit them with infra-red lights. Apparently the IR overloads the CCD sensors on the new Gatso's that are fitted with digital cameras (not the old film type cameras) and makes the plate unreadable.
I wonder what would happen if you fitted IR LEDs behind these plates? wink

My Chim had TVR fitted backlit plates. I tried to get another plate direct from TVR some years ago but they couldn't get hold of the correct material anymore.

Did all Chims use backlit plates or was this phased out during the models lifetime?

The original Chims had backlit lights. Facelift models are lit conventionally. Fancyplates still make backlit ones.

If the use of backlit plates was by design why then is there a whiff of something illegal when talking about them? Are flashplates are something different entirely? A yes answer will suffice. I can work out the rest whistle

There's nothing illegal about the TVR backlit plates but it seems some MoT testers have never heard of them and want to fail the car because they can't see a numberplate light.

The Flashplates look like a similar design, with a translucent backing material, the only difference being the illumination is built into the plate frame.

Thanks T Pot. They are metal have registration number on them. EU symbol and local county emblem. So far no ones has mentioned the lack of number plate illumination at MOT and I don't drive at night v.much. But one day it may be a problem.... I'm reluctant to add any permanent rear number plate illumiantion for fear of spoiling the look.

the only solution with reagrds lighting i can think of, is maybe fitting an slim led strip on the top of the plate, possibly hidden under the boot lid ?

if you can get the symbols they could be made up and a plastic plate made that would work though

Would a scanned image of emblem on the plate be OK?
