Just had some info from Richard to post to the PH masses.

Oh boy, you'll love this !

I'll quote Richard rather than interpret further.

"This is an official outright road car lap record attempt including exclusive track use enabling a full lap to be timed arranged through Sport Auto mag".

"We hired ring specialist Tom Coronel for the task whom has tested our gtr720 on a public day and declared the car as a sub 7 minute missile, the fastest road car he has ever driven - something very special !"

and, wait for it ...

you ready ...

"Tom is confident that the can beat the official 6m 55s lap, AS SHOWN IN TESTING, AN OUTRIGHT LAP RECORD !!".

Wow !! woohoo

A few other bits !

"The engine didn't lunch itself, we have not run the car today, the fan belt did get stone trapped in it yesterday during testing taking the belt off with it. But engine and car in perfect order no damage done."

"Today was washed out by rain".

Full details to be posted Monday (bu Ultima). I tried my best to tease out a few more details but obviously Friday will be the main event and Ultima want to keep a few details private, which I can understand.

What a scoop !!

Regards

Tony

Sorry Stig, couldn't resist getting the details down a.s.a.p. And if I'm privvy to some of the same info you are getting (as Ultima's original-and-best "confidante") then that is indeed an honour !

Anyway, you did beat me to the first details, I just did the update !

Yours reverently bow

Just heard from Richard. Am sorry to say that rain unfortunately thwarted their official attempt.

Full news is on www.ultimasports.co.uk/nurburgringlaprecordattempt... I've just tried this link and there is an error on the page, but it has only been updated in the last few mins so I'll keep trying and let you know when it is live.

Top darts. Well done for having a go. B'stard rain. Get that next date booked boys!!

Have a chat to Drivers Republic, they seem like the sort of forward thinking outfit that could make another attempt happen. Chris Harris was gonna drive my Ult at Fighting Torque last year, but we ran outta run time. He'd be up for a lap or two, surely??

That press release is awful, empty self promotion. Too crass to do the car justice.

The thing speaks for itself, why post 'projected times'? Just go back and do it...

Hmmm, I have to agree with the 'projected times' bit. But at least that means they HAVE to return!!

So Ultima has already beaten the 6:55 lap time, they just haven't made it legit yet. They need to book another session and make it official.

Just noticed another product offering by Ultima, they now offer an upgraded 5th gear ratio for 200+ mph. In the article, it says GTR recorded 220 mph on the Autobahn. Curious as to the new 5th gearing goes up to 231mph.

Hi mate,

have you heard that they HAVE done a 6.55? I don't think it has been said yet?

Yeah that 220mph on the autobahn and the 231mph (gearing limited) top speed, had me thinking last night.

The press release says that this is a std G50 03 with a modded 5th gear. Speaking from (a little) experience the std 1st to 4th, would get you to 140mph in warp speed with 720 CHP. But a std 4th, to (even) a gear capable of 220 (let's assume for mow that the 231mph is a different 5th gear altogether) would make for a rediculously large jump in rpm.

I've experience a 227mph gear (at 7000rpm) and the shift that that required in even a modded 4th at 7000 rpm bogged down into about 4800 rpm. But a std 4th would at 7000 rpm to a 220 (7000rpm) 5th would, at a guess be about 4500 rpm.

Now that either proves the torque and BHP of the 720, or it make for a highly compromised 4/5th change.

Anyone care to prove the maths on this one?

If that factory 5th is the 231 Vmax gear, then that would make the jump even bigger!!

One would think for a World stage event such as an attempt on the Ring Record, a few extra bucks for a perfectly matched set of ratios is money well spent?

Lucks

Hi P, just my interpretation of what has been quoted by Tom.

"Tom is confident that the can beat the official 6m 55s lap, AS SHOWN IN TESTING, AN OUTRIGHT LAP RECORD !!".

From his quote, sounds like he has beaten the 6:55 lap on the test run(s).

Posting that time is brash, no doubt. Its not illegal or unethical to be brash and lets remember, they are in the business of selling cars. This stuff works to sell cars. The other thing that works is sexy women, but who needs to go there when you have a product that outperforms everything else on the planet. Yeah, I look at their statement in a completely different way than you are. They have proven time and again the performance capabilities of the GTR and they must be very, very confident it will BEAT the 6:55 time. I loved that Mr. Coronel was the one claiming the time. He is a reputable 3rd party that has tons of credibility and Ring experience. You may not like the approach (I do), but they were very smart the way they released this info. It creates a buz around the world and we're all talking about the GTR. How much is that advertising worth?

Great Job Guys!!!!

Unsubstantiated claims do more damage to their credibility than helping the cause IMO. Show us the proof................

How many of you that are saying that Ultima will crack the record easily, have ever been to the Ring and seen for yourself quite what a task it will be??
