Audi A4 qestions......................
Discussion
Hi Guys n Gals!
I've owned Alfa's for years now and know them pretty much inside & out!
Time for a change and I'm looking looking at an A4 around the 9k mark.
Is there anything I should be looking out for?
With Alfa's it was cambelts and waterpumps every 36K and check oil levels.
So what gives with the Audi's????????
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

At this kind of budget a lot of car is available.
Firstly, if you want a B6 model (2001 - 2005) then a 1.8T, 2.4, or 3.0 petrol or a 1.9TDi or 2.5TDi are about in your reach, and really I would say go for a car with proper history, as much originality as you can find and a colour that is not maroon, dark green, or beige (there are some seriously). Quattro will be worth £1000 and Avant £1000 compared to saloon.
There might even be B7 (2005) models with high miles (2.0, or 1.8T petrol and 1.9TDi and 2.0TDi diesels) at sub £10k if you are going to take a chance at auction.
My advice would be 1.8T, 1.9TDi, 2.0TDi and 2.5TDi with as little miles and as much history and originality as possible as I feel they will run with the least fuel, road tax and mechanical issues. This would be my choice for average to high miles motoring.
On the other hand if you are OK with spending some money to run the car then a B5 S4 model, saloon or avant is possible. The performance of these machines is awesome when running the way they are meant to - 99% of the BMW E36 M3 performance as a fractino of the cost and family friendly too. However as others on the forum will tell you they do occassionally need some tlc and sometimes will be more expensive to fix than the lesser engines. However that being said this is one of the most charismatic engines Audi ever buuilt, with excellent car quality and a real q-car image which makes me want them more than I could ever want an M3.
This (an Avant) would be my choice on the budget for low miles motoring.
Go for full history, a real enthusiast owner who can show you the "ropes" and what he has already done to the car to make it 100% working.
Good luck!

And the non originality would put me off.
To the right person this is a great looking car, but to me it looks a bit chav.
