Now I'm probably not known for finding faults with my lovely Wedge, and I do try to be tolerant with her little foibles, BUT on bumpyish roads I do get a bit of a banging from inside the driver's door.

Now I can only assume that either a tortoise, having previously clambered in there to hibernate is getting a good rattling, or something is loose.scratchchin

I have a horror of stripping doors down.
Is the window motor likely to be banging about, or something else ?
Windows are operating perfectly (touch wood).

Any suggestions welcome, especially long-winded and silly off-topics. smile

Ive had my doors apart a few times and there is not a lot in there, the motor is attached to the regulaor which is held in place with a few bolts,if this was loose you would have window problems.
It could be the connector for the motor or the bike cable upperlimit cable/rod broken.
Be prepared for loads of washers spacing things out ! must of been 30 or so just on the door handle.

Failing that the drainage holes on the underside of the door are quite big so a dead mouse smile

Have you checked that the door striker rubber insert is still there?

I'll check - cheers, but the actual door isn't moving...just something banging
inside it, and only on rougher roads at highish speed. smile

I would guess that would be the bolt that holds the window runners at the bottom of the door. The weight of the window in the runner stops it flying about when down. The position of that bolt will affect you window angle, so careful closing the door the first time with the window up and the roof on.

Take the panel off, rip off the plastic sticky backed stuff that is supposed to keep the wind out from inside the car at speed and then have a good poke around inside. Take out of the loose stuff, washers, and general bits of rusty crap. Tighten everything up, cable tie everything, try and spray some silicone on the window runners as it will help the window glass rise and lower more quickly whilst you can get at them.

Grease everything you can get at.

I would also fill the original holes drilled at the bottom of the door with silicone or something so that when you put the panel back on the screws have something to bite into. Otherwise they might come loose and mark the sill or kickplates if you have them.

Gaffer tape up all of the holes in the panel to make them airtight and then put it all back together again. If you dont seal the holes in the door on the inner panel you will end up with a drafty leg when you drive the car at any speed! ;-) .....which is nice.

Oh and don't forget to wire up the speakers if you have them.

Might also be an idea to give the door panel leather a bloody good clean when its off, suprising how grubby it gets.

Might also be worth cable tying the little plastic connector block that connects the door handle pull mechanism as this normally works loose and you (or you're passenger) end up trapped in the car....a bit of preventative maintenance.

my window will bang on the screen frame on bumpy roads, cure by dropping window a bit.
