Ok so since i purchased my 40D lots of things have been happening, but more in terms of payment! which is always good. My most recent job was sports day and a few are shown below. Their are other ones taken around my school but i cannot show those until some forms have been signed. The school have quoted me 100£ for 30 photos which i know is not too great but i can't moan because of my age etc. I would like to know what you think of the ones i have included!

Cheers

Leighton

some good stuff mate.

i would say though, you gotta drop this idea of selling yourself short because "of your age". If your work is good enough to charge for, then age makes no difference mate.

Keep up the good work!

Well done sir! So far I've only managed to screw £60 out of my old school. They say they have no money, yet charge £5K a term...

Did you have to get a CRB check to make sure you're not going to assault the kiddies?

ETA the bloke doing the triple jump has a condition we used to call 'athlete's face' hehe

Today I was told I couldn't look round a church because there'd be some children in it, supervised by CRB types who wouldn't be happy about it because of 'Health & Safety' and because they thought I might have a camera... banghead

And yet I photograph children quite happily at every wedding and nobody minds at all.

I have to agree with leeb, Leighton, I think you need to drop the age comments and start thinking commercially. If your photos are good enough they'll justify their price, if not they won't.

In this case, your shots are for the most part technically good in terms of focus, composition and exposure, I reckon a couple could do with sharpening up a bit (though that may be the PH squish factor?)

If they're for parents to buy they may be a bit too reportage rather than capturing the individual endeavours of sports day. But as a set for the school portfolio I think they capture the essence. Particularly like the last image.

These are just for use in some school publications, such as presentations, newsletters, plasma screens etc.

Thanks for your comment, i really appreciate it. Now appears to be the time!

Good work. Agreed with the last comment above about reportage vs 'portrait', but they're properly good shots - there's a lot of us on here a lot older than you who'd be very pleased with those!!!

So get out there and sell yourself! (so to speak...;) )

Just found this BBC competiton if anyone aged 16-19 fancies having a go. I guess the "action portrait' requirement might rule out motorsport, but I'm sure there's a creative way round it.

Your face on images are a lot stronger than those from the back e.g. triple jumper much stonger than the javelin throwers. I'm sure a few parents would be only too happy to pay for a copy of their child as well as using these in the school. No harm in seeking extra profit smile

I like the discus close up, that was very nicely observed.

Good stuff man, You have captured the motion really well.

The last picture especially captures the moment just before the throw. I would maybe approach the parents ?

Again, don't let your age be an issue. i would be happy if i sold some photos only managed to get my stuff in non profit publications so far!

I did prefer the frontal images as wel but the teacher told me off for being in front of (well not exactly but near the front of the javelin) so i couldnt get a good shot and the backdrop looking the other way was rather ugly, people, building work etc)
