VW GOLF MK5 oil pressure light coming on!!!!

My girlfriends just bought a 04 golf with the 1.6fsi engine, i dont know much about golfs only they have a good reputation for reliability! However the oil pressure light has come on whilst sat at lights for a short period, theres also over an inch too much oil in the sump!! as it was just serviced. Is this a major issue? we're sending it back to get this sorted can't imagine how its connected to the oil pressure issue? any advice would be great.
