Wet track day tyres?

It looks like my trackday year isn't going to start until August so I'm looking forward to splashing through some puddles the next few months Ted reckons the V70A is really good in the damp but what is best for paddling through water?

Last year with the EVO I tried 4 different road tyre wets, all a bit dismal with the F1 Asymmetric marginally best.

Scooby boys say the Ultrac Sessanta is very good so I was thinking about 245/40/17 and 315/35/17.

Are you sure you want full race wets? Its an awful extravagance to buy specific wet tyres when you may only use them a couple of times a year. Race wet tyres take a wee while to warm up and give good grip, its better to use good road tyres with good rain clearing capabilities. I had great yokohamas on my racing car and I didn't fall off the pace as much as some of the front running cars, I lost maybe 4 secs and they lost 8-10 secs per lap.

Yokohama doesn’t make a tyre that will fit the standard rear rims of the Ultima. I looked into using them and spoke directly with Yokohama but the biggest tyre they did was a 315 and they stated categorically that they would not fit the 13"x18" rims. I had a narrower set of wheels made that would accept the Yokohama but then my plans changed so I never used them.

What I'm going to do is get a second set of wheels for rainy days, preferably 17inch, and narrower rears fitted with road tyres. Original Ultima wheels to be used with semi-slicks for dry days.

So I guess what I was asking is what experience have you guys got of various road tyres on wet track days?

I think Kumhos have already (quite rightly) been ruled out. But this is what they feel like in the rain (but yes, in the mildly moist they were really good)

The only tyres I have used on track in the rain (Heavy) are the factory supplied Goodyears. I thought they were excellent in the wet and would happily use them again for track use. I wasn't so impressed with the Goodyears in the Dry and I have since changed to Kumho which are a great improvement. Whilst I haven't used the Kumho in the wet I wouldn’t want to as they have very shallow tread and would anticipate lots of aquaplaning.
