woohoo
There doesn't seem to be a "covered head to toe in muck" smilie, as that would probably be more appropriate!

I've just finished my three week marathon of renewing the rust protection on the chassis, outriggers and suspension components (basically everything I could get to with the body still on). One of the big selling points of the car was the excellent condition of the underneathy bits, so I really want to make sure they stay that way!

Originally I thought I'd get it done in a weekend, but it became clear very early on that it was totally unrealistic. I had the use of a four-poster for that first weekend, so I decided to take best advantage and spend the entire first two days on stripping back (plus a little bit more for the suspension bits). The result of that, though, is that everything else has had to be done on axle stands, and, as my garage is too small to jack the car up in, it's been dry days only, as I've been scrupulous about keeping everything bone dry from beginning to end.

Anyway, for those interested, my treatment was as follows:
Kurust (rust converter) - applied with a plant sprayer and brush, so I could get into bits that the brush alone couldn't manage.
2 coats of Wurth Zinc 300 (97% zinc in a suspension) - cold galvanisation, so it provides cathodic protection even if it does get chipped/scratched.
2 coats of Stonechip paint
Tetracan underseal (hence why I'm now covered in gunk)
Waxoyl (just for the cavity between the outriggers and the body)

I've also made little stonechip guards for the front corners of the outriggers from a couple of old mudflaps - there was actually a little metal guard on one side already, but it was letting bits and pices underneath, so the new ones are moulded to wrap around a little bit more.

Should be the last time I've got to do that for a couple of years anyway!

Good effort! I am going to do all the wishbones this winter when it goes into hibernation end of September.

The wishbones were one of the haerdest bits to strip because of their shape. In fact, when I replace all the suspension bolts and bushes, I'm going to take them all off and shot-blast them properly.

(be prepared for spending this much time under the car making you slightly obsessive about it all being absolutely perfect!)

I'll do some finished ones next time I go out to the car, but its a bit of a pain taking photos when its just on axle stands (ok, excuses excuses, I've just been cr@p!).
