I've been pondering this for a while and recently on a trip across tight tricky welsh B roads with a few freinds I've come to the conclusion I could do with qicker witted steering.

Currently I have un assisted original eqipment steering and it feels great especialy at high speed in shallow bends. But in the low speed corners and hair pin bends which are so prevelant on my favourite B roads it becomes a real pain.

Is a quick rack available or would I be better off getting power steering retro fitted ?

PS Power steering is a viable option because I have a latter model engine out of a pas car so I should be able to fit all the gubins myself.

The power steering is easy enough to fit, although the rack will set you back about 300 sobs and the pump another 100 (i recently replaced both of these on mine) but now a quick rack would be v nice, but also v heavy

If you do find one please post back (demon tweeks) will know if one is manufactured do you want me to phone my man tomorrow

Why didnt I think of Demon tweeks ? I'll get my little bro to contact them, I believe the motor factors he work for gets discounted rates so that might be the way to go.

Quick question your PAS is it pretty feelsome or annoyingly light :ie can you perform parking manouvers with a single diggit ? I like heay steering but dont want it getting any heavier !

I think the 944 power steering is perfectly weighted - it is easily managable at low speed but not over assisted and gives plenty of feedback. My Dad's Peugeot 405 steering feels very floaty and uncertain in comparison, don't like it at all. On the other hand the unassisted steering in my 309 diesel is very heavy at low speed, and tends to have an over-centre action which can be nasty on tight junctions.

Commuting to work in my 944 tomorrow!

the 944 PAS is top notch, a little insensitve in the middle but plenty of feedback from the road, you can barely tell it has PAS, that until you drive one without it.....

Fit the PAS, it really is top notch even by modern standards. I do mostly B-road driving too, and it's great.
