Ruddy Data Protection Act

A few years ago my local council very happily supplied me with a list of privately owned properties which may be available for sale.

I asked for this again recently and have been told that due to the data protection act, it's no longer possible.

Would anybody know if there is a way around this; if I can give any formal assurances to help aid the process?

It may or may not be true.

"Data protection act" is currently a standard response from lots of companies - ask them specifically which part of the DPA it is breaking and then ask to speak to the DP Officer and double check.

They are probably a load of jobsworths hiding behind the act if they are unsure of the right answer.
