Can anyone recommend an insurance company that offer cover against damage done during a track day? Ideally a one day policy or similar?

Don't buy one day insurance unless you like wasting money or it's a one off thing. Find an insurer or broker who includes track days in the package. HIC do as do several others.

not sure i agree with that actually jubal. there are a number of reasons why you may choose a one-day policy over an annual one.

firstly, most road policies are limited to half a dozen (maximum) track days

secondly, I *think* i'm right in saying they all exclude european events

thirdly, they also still exclude third party damage when on-track

finally (and the big one for me) is the fact that an on-track accident will affect your no-claims and driving record - a big issue if your annual road insurance bill is into 5 figures and you've currently got full no-claims-bonus!

Richard Egger Insurance are the people to speak to on 01159 850165. By far the most knowledgeable, helpful and experienced people in the motorsport insurance sector.

I bow to the fact you've thought more deeply about it than I have. The policy I use for track cover does not have any no-claims discount element although no doubt the inevitable hike would happen if an accident did occur. Not sure what it would do to my other policies but it would also probably hurt there too come renewal time. Does anyone accept any third party liability on track?

See you Friday!

to my knowledge there is no 3rd party cover available for any track activities. best kept that way IMO, too!

Mine includes unlimited trackdays and some european events provided that an approved track day organiser is used. As for no-claims, your no claims protection applies on track as well as off, but yes - if you make a claim you can expect loading when you get to renewal time anyway. The excess for track days is significantly higher (10% of the value of the car on track: it is only £550 if on the road), but the last I heard that was also true of per-event cover too. Oh, and it cost me only a couple of hundred quid more than most quotes that exclude track cover. One off cover from mine would be significantly more than that for day one.

It is Porsche specific policy, so no good for most, but if you have one then I can certainly recommend it [the policy is from A Manning, underwritten by Allianz].

Thanks for all the replies.

I used to do a few track days up at knockhill in an old 205gti, have since replaced this with something a bit more expensive. Although not exciting or exotic compared to most of the stuff on this site the thought of me/someone else bumping it has been putting me off going back.

I'll do some more digging but by the looks of things the premiums/excesses are going to be fairly substantial.

Insured with Hagerty, they cover trackdays for 10% of your annual policy per track day, and cover Europe, but not the ring
