OK, I've got the serial lead, MBE ECU connected to laptop via serial port, checked all settings as specified in previous threads, ignition on, immobiliser off (and tried with engine running.) I think my connection is ok as it comes up with an ECU serial number in the box at the bottom, but I get an error message saying " Unable to find configuration file for this ECU" with the same serial number quoted.

Tried toggling F5 but no joy.

It's a 1999 4.5, with Austec remap (would that make any difference?). I've tried old & new versions of software (presume both should work?)

Any suggestions? I feel like I'm painfully close! Please help!!banghead

If you have the newer software (yellow Cerb), try the older one (blue Cerb) instead and vice versa.

It seems as you have a ECU software version that is missing among the config files for the laptop software. I have seen this on my car, what i did was to copy and rename files for another ECU software version to the version the laptop asks for.

The config files have a extension that is .RTV and .ECF. There are four .RTV files (A to D)for each ECU version, and one .ECF file.

If it works with the old version you can copy the config files from that version to the newer one.

This doesn't seem to be in the list of rtv files in either software version so I now understand why it aint working!

Thanks Peppe (and mikesr); at least I understand what the problem is.thumbup

Neither version of the software works with my ECU. I've checked the files and my ECU number does not correspond to any of the rtv files in either version.

I'm tempted to try renaming some of the files as you suggest, but presumably there must be a reason for different rtv / ecf files for each ECU number. i.e. will the data be reliable if the files do not really correspond to my ECU? Or does it not matter?

Just tried re-naming the rtv & ecf files with my ECU number, both old & new software versions, but still not working! I noticed that all the files in the software have 7 digit numbers but it comes up with the 8 digit number (definitely 94110035) for mine.

There's even a set of files for 9410035 but mine seems to have the extra 1 in it! I tried renaming these (as the closest match) with my number but same error message comes up.

Now I'm really confused.headache

The 94110035 version is the one I have seen most in the cars that I worked on with Trackcar.

There is very little variation in the various versions. The only significant change was they moved the location of the even bank adaptive map post 1998.

The files with the missing one are the ones that should be picked up (don't ask me why there is a difference, seems crazy to me)

Very strange that its recognising the serial number but not matching it to its file sets.

It could be that the software is looking for them in the wrong place.

Are you launching the diagnostics from a shortcut?
If so is the "Start in:" property set to the folder where the .exe file and the .ecf and .rtv files are?

The files should be named 9410035.rtv and so on. The versions of the software that I have, has the files with these names. 941 is the type of ECU and the following numbers are the software version. The first digit in the software version number should be dropped when you name the config files.

Sorted it! Thanks guys. I had copied the files from my memory stick into the laptop and it couldn't find the files. When I ran it direct from the memory stick, it worked!woohoo

I have now confirmed that the cause of the MIL at full throttle only is Throttle pot 2 going over 94.7% I'll try to adjust it when I can see it!

Thanks again; very happy now!thumbup

can't connect to my ECU : diag software is giving me erratic numbers as ECU id, never same numbers, with sometimes very strange caracters in it as $, ù, !!... I can't understand why.
Twice it gave what seemed to be a correct id : 941116A and 9413116 but told me he is not able to find the config files for this ECU
but I have verified and I've got 941116A.RTV file in my directory...

I'm quite lost, anyone could help me? thanks.
