I'm sold on getting a sat nav system and was sold on the idea of a TT 530T or 730T.

Note 'was' sold, as now I'm thinking that perhaps a PDA might be the way to go.

My criteria now would be a PDA that gives me the following .....

Wi-fi web access
Mobile phone
email access and usual PDA functionality
sat nav functionality (I guess probably TT navigator)
speed cameras database
And I don't know if this is pushing it - but traffic updates too.
Decent car mounting system

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

Many thanks in advance,

K

I have an XDA orbit running TT6. There is a newer version XDA Orbit 2. Worth having a look.

I've got the HP iPAQ 6915 which has Windows Mobile, mobile phone functionality (although I use a seperate mobile but could switch the sim card), WiFi, 1.3 megapixel camera, e-mail and usual PDA functions including GPS. I bought it off flea-bay and installed the latest TT Navigator 6 which came with a Speed Camera database. I also got a windscreen mount from an accessories website.

Only one type of PDA phone to have at the minute IMO, the HTC touch Diamond. GPS running tomtom and google maps, wifi, 3G/H? connectivity, windows mobile, 4GB internal storage, excellent internet browser (opra) and has microsoft office built in. Free on orange for £35 per month with unlimited web browsing.

I use a BlackBerry 8820 with nav4all software and a cradle from ebay, works well, free software for navigation plus of course all the benefits of a blackberry.

Normally I would also recommend the HTC Touch Diamond (a.k.a. MDA Compact IV on T-Mobile), but if you can wait a couple of months then there is the HTC Touch Pro which is kind of a cross between the Diamond and the HTC TyTN II, which has all the features that haleelectrical mentions but with the 4gb internal storage replaced with a MicroSD card slot (if you need expandable storage), and it has a slide-out keyboard. It is thicker than the Diamond, though (11.35mm for the Diamond vs. 18.05mm for the Touch Pro).

Kinks - last time I spoke to you about PDAs and remote email access, your response was along the lines of "Feck no"!

I run a XDA Orbit 2 from o2 - has all the stuff mentioned above, but comes with Co-Pilot 7 pre-installed.

I was wary of it, as I'd only used TomTom before but CoPilot is actually very good, you can subscribe to traffic updates if you wish, you can use the cameras from PocketGPSWorld (and it handles them better than TomTom does), and you can use the live net-based real time tracking/destination service.

I have TMC enabled nav in the car, so I don't tend to use it much, but it seemed very competent the last time I tried it in a mates car.

When I changed from an Ipaq nav system to a dedicated unit, I found the simplicity of using the dedicated unit an amazing advantage. At the price of dedicated satnavs with 4.3 inch screens, why try to combine all these functions in one device?

It's simple - but I can't fit a TomTom in my pocket.

HTC TyTN I or II (II has built in GPS, tilt screen and 128Mb RAM)

Available under different model designations depending on service provider.

I have a v1605 (TyTN I or rather, Hermes) running TomTom 6 Navigator and Google Maps (and Skype etc.etc.etc.) 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, Quad band - works a treat smile
