Front Diff recall on L322's
Discussion
Just had a call from my local dealer (Harwoods)
My 02 TD6 has been recalled to have the front diff replaced by LR. No charge to me.
Sounds jolly good. Also laying on a nice shiny RR or RRS for my enjpoyment while they do it.
Biy of a bugger for those that spent £2k replacing their own though.

It's to replace the input shaft of the diff to a spec similar to the later cars. The sliding (moot point, it will only slide a couple of mm, but that's another story...) splined joint of the original diff and front propshaft is replaced with a cv joint.
This is an updated early car, note the extra heat shield, too.

This is a diff removed from an early car, you can see the splines have failed (the propshaft has a male splined end to locate in there). Failed splines means lots of nasty noise and no forward motion!

Ok, letter arrived today. FAQ's
"Q. What should i do if i have already had a repair carried out on the differential
A. If any previous differential repair was completed by a Land Rover Dealer as a warranty claim free of charge to you, then you need read no further. If you paid in part or full for any previous differential repair you should contact your local Service advisor and produce the original invoice and proof of payment.
your Service Advisor will then submit a claim on your behalf and following authorisation for Land Rover your dealer will reimurse you."
How good is that!

is this just Landys or Rangeys as well?
Not too sure what you mean by that. Land Rover make lots of different types of cars, some of them are called Range Rovers. The reworking of the front diff input shaft is only for Mk111 Range Rovers (L322) from 2002 - 2005, both BMW 4.4 V8 and TD6 engined cars are affected. The later cars from 2005 have a different front diff input shaft arrangement and haven't been suffering failures.
Discoveries, Range Rover Sports, Freelanders, Defenders etc are not affected.
If you're in any doubt, give your local dealer a call quoting your VIN number and they'll be able to help.

Anyone know if you can get replacement ones of these? (& the others by the air vents)

the ones in ours are a horrible orangey would effect & look nasty against the cream leather, was wondering if there was a company somewhere selling Stainless or carbon versions? or is there a Land Rover scrappy somewhere that I could get the Dark ones shown in the picture?
Cheers, Nik

Dumb question, but can you just call your local dealer & tell them that you have an L322 & they will book it in to replace the diff?
Is it really as simple as that?
Mine is an 04 with 6 months remaining LR warranty on it.
Answered my own dumb question this morning. Called my local LR dealer (Harwoods, Basingstoke) & booked it in for the work with no qibbles at all Is it really as simple as that?

You should be ok. If in doubt though, get the existing owner to book it in and get it sorted. It's free.
For info: My local dealer had my car delivered on the back of a truck on Wednesday night with about thirty minutes notice. I got it back mid-afternoon today all sorted and most importantly, £0!!!
Good effort. I suppose it's because LR are paying, not the dealers.
