Happened to me a second time last night. Power Steering feels non-existant when trying to turn at slow speed or stationary, but only happens when hot. Noticable turning left so far but does not mean it is not a general pump issue.

Not had chance to look her over yet, as other project taking up time.

Has had new rack in the past, so plan of action is to check fluid (sure OK), hoses, grease the rack and check and lube U/Js.

Speed six, so not sure on drive arrangement, (is it a woodruff?)

I have also noticed a whining appearing when warm. Had already planned to strip alternator out to check, and to check Aux shaft bearing, but could be pump. This may be misleading though. Faults seem to come in 2's and 3's. Like going to the quack with sprained ankle and headache.

Any ideas welcome

How does the pump work, is it electric? If so at low revs is your alternator pumping enough power to start it? Elctrics on mine are never happy at idle.

99% sure standard pump driven off aux shaft.

Thanks for thinking of me in my Speed Six wilderness... it can be lonely out here at times

Had/have (Cerbs been off the road since sept) that problem with mine. Heavy steering at low speeds. Really heavy when you go to change direction at low speeds.

I had a UJ changed by indie, and it did sod all.

I think its the pump itself tha could be the culprit. So will be changing it whilst the engine is out. Along with renewing all the front suspension bushes, ball joints and track rods.

The saxo electric power rack is an option....

Thanks

Syphoned the fluid out of the PS Res, and replaced. For a while at the weekend, the whining noise seemed to disappear. Difficult to tell though as you can't notice it when the windows are down. Steering did go tight at one point when parking.

Going to have a closer look tomorrow
