locked in!

the inside door handle of my car has stopped working - it pulls all the way out but the door does not release. much as i like being in it does anyone have any suggestions for how to fix it? (fortunatley the outer one does work!)

Cable snapped or nipple (Queue Mungo) come off. Undo the two nuts that hold the centre console on and lift it off. You should be able to identify the problem quite easily

I just experienced this problem myself on arrival at the station and had to do a rather undignified scramble over to the passenger seat and get out that side.

To clarify, is this most likely to be a snapped/disconnected cable? I haven't checked the bible on this yet, but from this thread it seems that I need to investigate the flap near the door, and under the heating console. Is that right?

If it still does then just put the window down and press the button until its fixed.

I couldn't get the outside handle to work in the 90seconds I had to get out of the car and leggit to the platform, tho' this was after some spurious fiddling with the door-lock button on the dash and random presses on the keyfob, so me being a numpty basically. Once I extracated myself (ooer missus) a quick toggle of the fob (ooer again) and the outside handle did work, but no joy with the one inside...

What a pain!

This is not too bad. You need to jack up the rear of the car and remove the drivers side wheel. Slacken the handbrake adjusted right off (this is located near the diff, just follow the cable from the caliper). This will allow you to lift the handbrake vertical. Undo the 4 nuts that hold the console to two small brakets behind the seats. Take the roof out and lift the rear of the console and pull it towards the rear of the car. Should just come out but be carefull about the cabling to the heater controls. I had enough slack in them to get it out of the way but you may not.

I know that detailing 'the secret method' is always frowned upon in the forum but then whenever I've seen it mentioned, one post later you'll always see someone emailing the info instead. I dont really see what difference it makes - posting the details on the forum or emailing it - either way the possible car thief ends up with the info. If you're just going to chuck the info out via email to anyone who asks then you may as well post it... In any case, I dont think the car would be rendered particularly vulnerable, well no more so than any other car with an external lock. Perhaps its something to do with PH legal liability?

And i would have a look at someones profile before mailing info too. Yes your not going to completely stop anyone from knowing but IMHO the more you can do not post it openly then surely thats gonna help protect our PAJ.
