NASCAR - anyone seen it live?

I am going to the US at the end of August and will be in LA over the weekend of the Pepsi 500, so am obviously planning to go and watch it!

Has anyone seen NASCAR live? If so how does it compare to F1 in terms of experience/atmosphere?

Just interested to hear peoples views.

yep at las vegas in 2006.

vast track,good view of everything - we were sat opposite the pits -,not the friendliest bunch of people but the biggest disappointment was the lack of noise compared to f1 engines.i expected a wall of deep rumbling noise and while it certainly wasn't quiet nor was it like f1 cars.that may just have been due to the vegas oval.

the cars look fast and there is obviously always something happening.
overall a good day very different from f1.much more grass roots attitude.

they could also teach silverstone how to get the traffic in and out without probs.we set off at 7 am expecting f1 type q's and drove in without a prob.

yes we have been to several races my favourite is Bristol no problems with lack of noise- 43 cars racing round a 1/2 mile oval watche dby 140,000 + fans = deaf for days afterwards!!!!

As you say the fact that there is always something happening is a real plus point, it will be nice to see a different type of racing - i.e. lots of overtaking etc!!

So it's quite esay to get in/out of the circuit by car on raceday?

I'm looking forward to the atmosphere, I remember watching 5th Gear when they went to the daytona 500 - the fans were fanatical, i'm hoping its similar at LA.

Saw it at Las Vegas earlier this year. Awesome spectacle - spectating really is the only way to watch Nascar and, it being Vegas, we had a little flutter on the results too.

Quite a different motorsport experience - you have to give credit to all the drivers who are undoubtedly a talented and fearless bunch, but I don't think you can really appreciate individual skill so much.

Yes how they drive in such close contact at the speeds they do can't be easy, i'm looking forward to seeing it live..

Either that or you end up as a rather large stain on a concrete wall..

It's definitely something i plan to see live before Air travel is taxed out of existence.

Yes it appears to have all the good things that modern F1 lacks. Looking forward to the atmosphere live, the fans are very passionate about it aren't they..
