I’ve been considering buying a well tuned s15 spec R but I am very unsure if there a reliable car that I could drive every day and live with on a daily basis. If anyone could give me some info on the car please do.

Well my S14's my daily drive, and although its not that modified its been pretty reliable, as long as its got a good service history, and you get it serviced/more importantly get the oil changed regularly, mechanically there bullet-proof.

get yourself onto www.sxoc.com - they have an s15 section or www.s15oc.com

more than capable daily runner although petrol won't be cheap.

plenty of tuned SR20DET engines running 150k miles with no probs so a standard one should be no problem

Goli, those sites mentioned are good sources of information on the Silvia. I've had a S15 Spec-R for almost two years, admittedly it is not heavily tuned, but it is very easy to live with, and would do well as a daily driver (although I only drive mine on weekends). It really depends on how 'tuned' it is - but the SR20DET is a good, solid engine. Limited slip diff too, so lots of fun to drive.
Enjoy!!
ps.... mine is for sale biggrin

Thanks mate, I would say it is pretty good on petrol, sorry I don't have the official figures, but it's only a 4cyl single turbo after all. Obviously, it depends how it is driven, but generally speaking it is good for a performance car (I am running factory boost settings). Although I used to own a twin turbo RX7, so after that, anything seems economical!!

The official figure I found for the S15 Spec-R is 8.9 L/100km (~32mpg) (Jap combined cycle figure I think) or 8.3 for the Spec-S non-turbo.

So it should drink a fair bit less than a turbo Scoob, depending on what model Scoob it is and how you drive it.

ETA: Just noticed you say the one you're looking at is 'well tuned', so depending what has been done it may be thirstier. CAn't think of any reason an S15 couldn't be a daily driver, a tuned one may be somewhat lairy in the wet though.
