Alonso going to Ferrari?

So why bother to spend big bucks on an Abbey campaign fronted by Hamilton - that didn't strike me as a last minute lash-up thrown together by Santander when they realised Alonso was on his toes....

But I am pretty sure Alonso has a contract for 2010 or at least an option with Ferrari

I can't see Alonso going to Ferrari, he doesn't seem the team player type. Ferrari would have to stop the drivers racing each other to keep him happy. Saying that Alonso has been racing very well in the Renault and does seem to deserve a good car. I can see BMW looking for new drivers soon i would have thought Kubica would have been a likely to go to Ferrari. But with Alonso i think it's just speculation once again ignited by a sponsor, don't think it will happen.

It would suit anyone, and if you could deliver both championships, you'd expect to be supported to the hilt.

God, how wrong. He had both championships in the palm of his hand, and offered them to McLaren, but Ron backed the wrong(Ron g) horse and lost everything. It's Rons's team; they exist to win, if you are Ron's fave. Sad waste of brilliant technical ability.

One team has a strict policy of equal treatment for drivers, and any new driver can read this when he signs his contract.

If a driver fails to see this, and would rather act like a spoiled brat who can't deal with a driver as good as he is, and then decides to try to get his way by blackmailing the team principal, which causes him to be sacked, then boo hoo.

If Alonso does go to Ferrari in 2010, it wouldn't surprise me if a new Number two joined as well.

If Kimi retires, Massa will either be 1) A bit of a thorn in Alonsos side 2) Still a bit random to be a true number one

As they did with Irvine and Barrichello, I think Ferrari could plump for someone who by then has proven themselves to be a solid number two, with race winning form when needed.

And Massa could go and earn loads at Toyota or Honda

IMHO Alonso is the classic example of a driver who can win in an outstanding car, but struggles with anything less. So maybe he will be a good match for Ferrari but definitely as a second string to someone like Kimi.

There are a lot of F1 drivers who are good enough on their day to win in an outstanding car but there are only 2 or 3 really outstanding drivers and I wouldnt include Alonso in my list.

The one team/one man regime was brought in with Ross who, I would assume, saw it as the only way Ferrari could win the drivers' championship, the crown that the team hadn't been able to take since Jodi Sheckter in 79. 20 years of famine despite having the largest budget around was a bit of a condemnation of the team. When Ross ran the firm the Ferrari number two was of no account. MSchumacher demanded complete and utter no 1 status and got it. All the other teams ran their cars with a nominal number one but for Ferrari there was no argument. For all the posing of the Ferrari number twos, they were emasculated. Even when MSchuey drove into the scenery Eddie turned out not to be quite so fast as he reckoned.

McLaren ran the team as equal opportunities. However, for all of DC's great performances he was always second string on the ability level. RD showed a degree of patience with him that many felt was misplaced but my feeling is that DC must have brought something of value to the team. What he didn't bring was the ability to win the championship.
