Well im to the point where i have free time and extra money coming in along with a garage with tools. Its not going to be an "everyday" driver, however i would like to drive it from time to time on the streets and drive it to the tracks to have some fun.

could be cheaper to buy that and legalise it than try to build the equivalent vehicle here....

cheaper, and street legal, and knocking on the 9's...

i dont think 30k is enough to build one from scratch the best guy to talk to on here is Andy Frost redvictor im sure he has spent 3 or 4 times that over the years to get it to where it is.
if it was me i would look for an ex street eliminator car or roller i know the guy with the p100 pick up is selling that for around 10k less the engine and trans. you will have the advantage of haveing a proven chassis which will take the power you need to get a street car in to the 9's and most importantly get that power onto the track then you have 20 k to try and find an engine and trans combo to make the power you need to do 9's in a heavy street car.
your only other option is to bring in something from the states which as the old so and so has already sugested is by far your cheapest option.

not to mention, a 9 second car requires a crew, and a trailer, tower, etc, and that alone could cost £10K....

I wonder how many events 30K would buy you a ride with Rune for?

So where roughly can a line be drawn from having a 9 second or lower street car that requires crew, transporter etc to a car that can be used for shopping at Tesco's etc without crew and running consistant times ?

I have the impression that anything quicker than 10.5 would require a crew and transporter ? am I near with this or not ?

Hope I've made the above clear enough, I would love to hear you're opinions

if I'm not mistaken Ray Comer runs his 8sec SE camaro without any crew

To run 9s just for some RWYB stuff, bit of fun on the street etc I can't see why you'd need any crew or transporters etc at all, how about Matt Wright's old C10 pickup back for sale on eurodragster swap meet, £25k

If you're looking for a car to buy ready built, you could do a lot worse than Gary Springford's Mustang. It ran mid-10s at the Summer Nats, it's run 9s in the USA, and it has a full interior, electric windows and all. It was street legal in the USA, only 3000 miles from new, and there would be no problems with it being a street car over here. Details are on the Eurodragster swap meet page (Ref: 00014354). You'd have cash to spare for a trailer, tow vehicle and so on too.

If you're looking to build your own car, then there are no shortage of people who will gladly help turn that cash you have burning a hole in your pocket into a fast road car:

Webster Race Engineering
Andy Robinson Race Cars
John Sleath Race Cars
Chris Isaacs Race Cars
Hauser Race Cars

anyone who drives a couple of 100 miles to flog a stressed race car into the 9's and hopes the RAC will get him home when the prop, axle, tranny or head lets go is maybe going to hit problems when it happens...

i dont say its impossible, but maybe inadvisable

V8 twin turbo is what you need.Pick the car of your choice and hey presto...
OK,maybe not that easy but for driveability, ease of maintenance and power it's the only way to fly.Although 9's used to be the holy grail for road cars nowadays it's relativly easy with modern technology....

You think that cost less than £30k to build?
