Top Gear Heads up
Discussion
Was quite a boring one I thought, obviously more focused on entertainment sake rather than the car. May as well had been driving a skoda with a jap speaking sat nav! Makes you realize how far forward they are in terms of public transport tho..

Bit poo i thought. The car need to be put in a testing environment for a good review not on a motorway!
Because of the way they tested it there was little talk about the cars capabilities, possitives and negatives etc...
Agree with the Jap transport comment, 1 minute being considered officially late!!!! Do our trains ever come in that on time!

And the verdict is...it's really quick and clever...but he doesn't like it!! Still, he might be just saying that to be different to all the other hacks!
It wasn't a proper test of the cars capabilities. Then again when TG do test it properly what do you think the outcome will be ? - I would bet the same verdict i.e. capable but dull. The problem is the TG team are biased towards Italian exotica and German engineering. If the GT-R comes over here at £50-55k then I'd like to see them do a comparison with what else is out there for the same money ( M3, RS4, Entry 911). Once the GT-R is shown to pummel the opposition at this price, they should then compare it to cars costing twice (RS8, AM Vantage, 911 Turbo) and then three times the price (Gallardo/Superleggera, F430/Scuderia, GT2) - see how many scalps it takes then. I think its a landmark car in terms of performance / engineering / price - it's just a shame it has dull styling.

I think it looks pretty awesome. TBH everyone was spurting over the Alfa 8c in general gassing but I thought the GTR looks so much more purposeful and hardcore.
The Alfa looks like it has been designed for the french riviera...the gtr for the Ring.
I wouldnt be too surprised if they were a bit cold to it though as it wasnt a road test. They tend to respect cars once they fully test and compare them and they always compare straightline, track and road performance...
reminds me of the test of the 911 vs the Aston..he was so excited about the aston until it got shat on in all the performance tests by the 911.
I was having a look at the GT-R on Saturday at Litchfield, and the car on film just doesnt do it any justice. Dont knock the design until you have seen it, it really is a menacing car in the metal, in fact, it is huge! The discs alone must be 15" and the wheels are 20", each of the 4 exhausts are 3-3.5"!!!! I think i just fell in love with it to be honest!
Slightly off the subject, im starting to lose respect for the TG team simply because of the lack of respect they seem to have for cars in general these days. It was the Alfa episode that really changed my mind about them. They talk about being car enthusiasts but Hammond pulls up and dings the door of one of the Alfas that was in the best condition for a start then they continue to kill them until there is nothing left. The 47 is really rare and i have seen them trash other perfectly good rare cars over the years like the Starion.
To tell the truth its starting to piss me off, its like watching 3 idiots with too much money and no respect for cars in general. If i had all the money in the world, i wouldnt trash a perfectly good rare car!!
Rant over, sorry.;)

I read over on the Alfa forum, the chap that sold his car to them for the show had the option to buy it back for £1.00! Its all done in the name of entertainment now im afraid, appealing to a much bigger audience that just petrolheads.
I agree on seeing the GT-R in the flesh as well, was at Litchfeilds the other day also, its got a hell of a presence.

well hammond predictably kept calling it a datsun but that was always going to be the veiw of someone that thinks a 911 is the best car in the world under a 100k .
They do a track test (next week I think) so that may be why there was virtually no real report on the car.
Having seen one in the flesh , and sat in one , I agree the film doest do the car justice (surprise surprise)
still we will have to wait and see. It is pretty much the first time a jap car has been featured in two different programs

I'm totally with you guy's... Its turning into abit of a joke!! They are trying to make you laugh instead of reviewing the stats.
The GTR should of been put up against the 911 Turbo and the SL55 AMG in a straight line race or round the track. I understand that it will be shown later in the show, but why turn the car into a comedy sketch when the car has been out in Japan since March 08!!!!
As for their views on cars, I cant believe that people actually believe what they say!! The amount of people that come into the showroom and quote what TG have said absolutly amazes me.
I'm just glad that there are PH out there that have a brain!

I agree with all the above, the hamster doesn't generally like Jap cars. He s
gged off a NSX R a couple of years ago and that is one of the best cars ever made. He drives a Porsche, Mustang and Morgon for christsakes, so clearly has little taste IMHO. Maybe it's because the GTR can do more than a German car can that costs more than double the money. Reading last months EVO the GTR was only 0.02 seconds behind a GT2 and 0.04 seconds behind a Porsche GT which cost 350k when they were out!
Can't wait for thier full so called review.

Haven't been able to get the GTR out of my head all week. Pretty much the perfect car from all I've read. Can quite easily see me picking one up 2nd hand in a year or two.
Estimates on how much, and won't they be thrashed, or won't that bother them? See that, three questions in one?
