Were the TVR Wedges originally fitted with some kind of hold-down/tie-down for the battery, other than the elastic strap? Was there something that fit over the top of the battery?

Thanks.

Seem to recall a little rubber strap on one of my Wedges, was attached to 2 hooks and that was supposed to hold it in !
Another one had carpet around 2 sides to stop any sidways movement, which wasn't too bad, and my current one has nothing holding it in apart from the angle that you need to actually put the battery in. The only way it's going to come out I reckon is if I roll it, and if that happens the battery will be the last thing I'll be worried about yikes

The elastic strap connected to the two hooks is the only arrangement I've seen on the US wedges.

It's a bit of a joke detail really; the only thing in mitigation is that it's a bugger to get the battery in/out when you want to!

My 400Se has a hole at one end of the battery where it looks like
there was a bolt and some angled iron holding the battery in

I only know this as everytime I washed my car
I was getting lots of water in the footwell.

It took ages to work out it was all coming from the puddle forming under the battery
and for days after, it was finding its way thru this hole and wetting the carpets

One of the major pluses of fiberglass - no arcing when in the inverted position! wink

Thanks folks. I had the elastic strap, which is no longer elastic and is now completely unservicable. I've replaced it with nylon webbing, the variety used in mountaineering and technical rockclimbing, of the same width and fitted with nylon snap fasteners.

But, there are some holes above and on either side of the battery suggesting that there may have been a bracket there once (I'm sure these holes are open to the footwells). I also recall having seen picture of a Wedge that had something going on over the top of the battery.

All entirely plausible. Either due to TVR production line whims of the day or Jo public after market modifications

The battery cannot actually move up and down - just from to rear and side to side .. a bit.

Mine is very tight in there ..

I've replaced my original rubber strap with a length of webbing - screw at one end and hook arrangement at the other.. it stops movement but not up and down.
