Phase One announce 60Mp digital back
Discussion
News of the way that high-end equipment is going on Luminous Landscape here.
A 360Mb 16-bit file might be a bit unwieldy, but imagine the size of the prints you could make.
Choice nugget of information:
Looks like it'll be around £24,000 inc VAT

The medium format digital back market is small, probably less than 6,000 units a year world-wide. Canon makes more DSLRs than this each day.

Thats crazy. Is it full frame?
I've just had a CFV back on loan from hasseblad and it's a complete piece of s
t. The crop turned my wide angle into a telephoto and compared to a drum scan of one of my MF velvia slides the image just looked horrid. Pffft. I guess If I want to carry on shooting MF and LF it' still chemicals for my price bracket. I still prefer the process of shooting film anyways, but I was really disappointed!

Normally I crop the image to about a 30Mb Tiff file as that is ample for most stuff I do. The 60MP back should be stunning but the uses will be limited for general work and as the P45 is £20k the P60 will be a lot more here in the UK
I find the lenses aren't good enough to get the best from the P45 too
Edited cause I just noticed you said 360Mb not Mpixels

Very nearly - it's almost exactly the same as a 645 frame.Focused said:

Do you mind me asking what lenses you're using? I'm considering changing my P20 for a P45, and that's one of the issues I'm worried about.S. Gonzales Esq. said:

Its mostly noticeable with the wide-angle lenses, 55mm or 35mm on the 5x4. The quality is better with the Hasselblad as its nearer full frame. The P45 has a CF slot, not sure if the P20 has that? Maybe the loss of quality with the 5x4 is that you have to get the sensor dead centre to the lens, any deviation from that point could cause the quality loss. If you're using medium format, you should be fine. maybe try a back on loan.

I thought I'd do a shot with the P45 and show the quality with a 750 pixel crop. Taken straight from 112Mb 300dpi raw via Caputure One........

The new P65 should be amazing
