Very true, but with respect to the GM lump the firing order changed when it was redesigned and the material changed. Most modern V8s use this firing order now.

I didn't know that. I knew that the small block Ford firing order changed about the time they went to efi in the late 80's / early 90's. Every day is a schoolday Have a look at this link to get the full run down...

Sounds menacing...I still think the nicest sounding V8 is the old Holden 4.9/5.0 right up until they replaced them in the VT series 1. Nice big cam and free flowing exhaust. Sweet!
Reminds me of an old VK SS Group 3 I had, Crane CC288 solid cam, heavily ported B cast heads & single 3" dumped at the diff. I'd give my left one to get that car back...that and the A9X hatch I had back in 96.
