On top gear actually that very nice Alfa Romeo 8C.

What jobsworth's responsible for emasculating the monaro then, well all the "Vauxhall" V8s? Compared with the above and my pre-cat TVR V8S it's, sadly, pathetic. Have I got a PC V8?

Stick a proper exhaust on and the SBC V8 sounds just fine.

Im guessing ADR requirements in Oz are largely responsible.

It won't ever sound the same as a proper old style American iron block V8 (inc Rover V8 - ex Buick)though. They changed the firing order when it went ally in 1998.

Very true, but with respect to the GM lump the firing order changed when it was redesigned and the material changed. Most modern V8s use this firing order now.
Have a look at this link to get the full run down...

I didn't know that. I knew that the small block Ford firing order changed about the time they went to efi in the late 80's / early 90's. Every day is a schoolday smile

I still think the nicest sounding V8 is the old Holden 4.9/5.0 right up until they replaced them in the VT series 1. Nice big cam and free flowing exhaust. Sweet!
Reminds me of an old VK SS Group 3 I had, Crane CC288 solid cam, heavily ported B cast heads & single 3" dumped at the diff. I'd give my left one to get that car back...that and the A9X hatch I had back in 96.
Hindsight eh....20/20 vision.
