Just need a quick bit of advice.

Have a bit of rust on the inner lip of a rear wheel arch. The rust looks like it is starting to spread under the paint to the rest of the body.

I would like to stop it spreading any more.

How would you go about sanding and painting it? and if I sand it down am I just going to find a lip of pure rust which will drop off/crumble? or is it just surface rust?

Car is a 96 plate Ibiza.

Many thanks

Matt.

Not easy because it looks to me like the rust has spread from the wheel arch lip.

Does look as if you could save the arch though. Grind the area back to bright metal, use a rust converter then refinish with a filler, stopper, primer and paint. Marginal as a diy proposition but repair yourself and get a body shop to paint it then perhaps under £100 total.

Bilt Hamber Deox Gel, with Electrox or Hydrate 80 should fix the rust aspect.
Drop of paint thereafter, and it'll be good to go.
