Well, after contemplating getting myself an A8 for some time now, I have eventually taken the plunge, and am now the very prowd owner of a 54 plate A8 4.2 Petrol with a mere 110k miles on the clock (it has been nicely run-in for me!)

I have been half-heartedly looking at the market for quite some time now, and when this car came up for sale at a good price, and given that the seller was just down the road from me, I thought it would be rude not to go take a look at the car... Well, what can I say, I loved the car the moment I saw it... I was trying to find things wrong with it, but just couldn't find anything!... It didn't take long before I realised that I would be buying the car!

It is silver, and to be honest I wasn't sure of the colour from the photos, but in the flesh, it looks fantastic, with the chrome trim offering subtle highlights. The interior is black, which, on smaller cars can make it seem dull inside, but with the amount of space in the A8, this simply is not an issue.

I have only had the car for a week, but I love it already... Now I just need to try and figure out how to use all of the toys!

Are you considering an LPG conversion?

Way to go Matt, glad you found one you liked. They munch miles like there's no tomorrow, so you should be happy as a sandboy. What extras do you have? Pictures?

Not in the immediate future, but never say never... Are new/more LPG pumps still being installed at petrol stations? I only asked, because I took a look into it a couple of years ago, and was actually quite surprised at how few there were around.

Not sure if more are going to be installed in the future but im betting they will and am thinking of buying shares in an lpg manufacturing company. As petrol gets up to 1.60-2 quid per litre (1.60 by the end of the year at the latest) i guarantee a lot more people will start putting in lpg tanks as it will be cheaper than buying a pious.

Enjoy it.
There are so many toys on these cars it took me over 3 weeks to find out what they all did.
Do a very high mileage in mine and they are so comfortable to drive I feel as good when I get out of it as I was when I got in.

IIRC the tax exemption on LPG is going to be abolished either 2010 or 2012, sure I read it somewhere.

I know what you mean - The MMI is great, but it does take a while to learn how to change all the settings, etc... But it's the little things that make a big difference - For example, I like how you can have different "sound" settings for radio and CD - very handy. smile

I too do a high mileage, and the seats are truly comfortable... although with so many adjustments possible, I keep making small adjustments here and there - I have used up all 4 seat memories, just for different settings for me!!

Am loving it, great car!

Do you have the fingerprint recognition or the cunning keys? I was especially please with the former as wifey and I share the car for our motorway hack - with most cars the keys just remember the important stuff like seat settings, but with our A8 it remember all my settings for audio and screen preferences, as well as turning off her goddamn Radio2 and letting me listen to the Today program on R4 biggrin

Dension do a really nice MMI Ipod connector for these:

Absolutely blinding cars - if you want to waft around the 4.2 is the nicest engine also.
