Travelling light

Can anyone tell me how you manage two people, tent, sleeping bags, clothes, and all the othert kit that you need, all in a 2 seater? I know how to travel light, and had intended to do the LM Classic in my Z3, but just impossible! So went in the GTi, and we filled that up! We're doing something wrong, but what?

Can of deodarant, tent, clean T Shirt and a credit card just incase you forget anything..

Well in the Spitfire swapping the spare tyre for a can of tyre weld makes a lot of difference!

Don't know how spare tight a Z4 is but I manage to squeeze; 2 people, tent, sleeping bags, gazebo, gazebo side walls, 15m or rope light, Auto Hebdol banner ('rescued' from drivers parade c.05), small gas stove and pans, 2 camp chairs, airbed, (minimal) clothes for 2, plus the usual spares/toolkip in to a Spit. And with the spare out I can do it without putting anything behind the rear seats!

Hell, if people can go down in Lotus Se7ens you should be able to do it in a Z4!

Le Mans Checklist
1) Passport and tickets
2) Credit Card
3) Car keys

i chucked the spare as well.

Last year I took our Z4M around france for 2 weeks with clothing etc. theyre not the biggest but you should be easily able to get what you need on there for Le Mans.

Managed a tent two quilts plus all clothing ect in my Z4 but i think the boot is a lot smaller in your Z3.

Get a group of you together and then persuade someone to drive a van down with all the gear in it, for the price of free tickets for the weekend.
Worked a treat for us, and 15 or so chipped in so about £30 each car all in incl fuel ( Van came free ).
Anything else in a cobra is just plain silly.

Suspect it depends on size of tent. I had an old frame tent my dad gave me and it filled the TVR boot to 60% capacity. I dumped it and bought a new one from Towsure which went easily behind the seats thus freeing precious boot space for beer.

MG Midget: two people, two tents, two sleeping bags, two airbeds (one a double), camping stove, kettle, two mugs, two Panama hats (one has to make an effort, you know), two bags with clothes etc, socket set, assorted pliers, spanners and screwdrivers, 4 litres of water (for the car), warning triangle, two high vis vests, 1 set of juggling clubs (don't ask),one jack AND one spare wheel. Oh yes, plus two passports, two i-pods, one road atlas, one Tom-Tom and one RAC European breakdown policy (not needed). And, on the way back, two bottles of wine, which was all we could manage, plus an extra sleeping matress for friend with Ultima who seemed to have limited luggage space for such a large car!

They don't make them like they used to.

Hey thanks Bruce. If you buy one of these new fangled sleeping mats don't assume they will roll-up as small once used.
On a serious note you can get most items in local supermarkets.

Bruce do we have a picture of those juggling sticks, and trumpet. (Not a reference to the Dream Team).

The answer is...you dont. You either get in a convoy with other types of cars with large boots (thanks Tubbs) or you get a motorhome with all your gear in (a la the race what race crowd) to go down beforehand.

Third option as previously stated is a t-shirt, shorts and a credit card!

We went to the Classic two up in my Lotus Elise no problem. Two tents, two sleeping bags, two thermarests, two travel pillows, two clothes bags, lantern, torch, mallet, coats, hats, water bottles, sat nav, cds, maps, triangle, hi-vis vests, bulbs etc etc. It is surprising how much you can wedge into a car without making it uncomfortable for the occupants as long as you use squashy bags!

Strange.... 2 mates travelled to Le Mans in June in a Z3 with me and my copilot in my TVR. In the Z3 they had a 4 person tent, 2 "roll up" chairs, 2 self inflating/compact sleeping mats, 2 sleeping bags and their clothes. We had the same in the TVR apart from the tent, but we had the stove, camping saucepans and plates etc. Just take lots of small bags rather than a couple of large ones and it should all fit. A quick trip to the supermarket once there to get food, beer, wine & bbq's and you're sorted

There seemed to be a few Z3 and Z4 drivers that managed to get that much in down at the classic.

We had a large tent, 2 chairs, fold up table, air bed, sleeping bags etc.
You just have to pack with a bit of extra thought

Those barbecues that fold flat are also a godsend when you're trying to minimise the volume used.

Trackrod, two of us went camping to the Le Mans Classic in a Caterham 7. Tent, sleeping bags, airbed, 2 chairs, gas stove, 2 bags of clothes etc. Packed up well but we managed it.
