I use a basic Tom Tom One and a Nokia 6110. Although the Nokia is convenient, alwasy in my pocket. It's route planning is questionable. Despite the fast as possible setting and telling it I'm driving a lorry, it will pick the most minor roads possible to get me to a destination if there isn't a motorway about. The Tom Tom is far more sensible about the choice of road. Anyone find this... Is this the Route 66 mapping or the phone that is the route of the problem.

Not an expert but I suspect its not the phone, as its just a GPS receiver. I'd guess its more likely to be the route66 software making the decisions.

Just a thought, as you seem fairly clued up anyway, but is the travel mode set to 'As fast as possible' rather than 'As short as possible' as I'd guess this might give you the minor roads you're trying to avoid.

Short as possible gets worse. You'd need a quad bike to follow that. It just doesn't appear to discern between a low quality track although it is national speed limit and a reasonable A road. I think you are right, it must be the logic in the mapping.
