I'd like to enter my 1976 BMW 2002tii in some form of race series. Does anyone know who i should be contacting with regards to rules and regs, and also what series will be best for my level of car and novice ability?
Many Thanks

the hscc do a 70's road sports championship and an historic saloon car championship. they would probably be the best bet for starters. from what i have seen the road sports would be a good place as the cars have to be road legal and mods are very limited, in fact i think you get bonus points for driving the car to the circuit. the saloon car championship is for full on race cars if i recall correctly but i would have thought its still good value for money. plus you get the bonus of entry to historic festivals such as silverstone or possibly goodwood!
if it helps a 2002ti lapped combe in 1.23.9 in the HSCC saloon car championship and for a reference, the F3 cars do it in 59s!!
anyway www.hscc.org.uk you might want to make a cuppa whilst the site loads up.........

You get two points for driving to the circuit and driving home. And the HSCC provide a 'get you home' service if your car breaks down or you have an accident IIRC

I did the 70's roadsports a few years ago in a Scimitar Gte !! and it was good fun and a friendly series. It may be different now, but the classes where divided by cc and the cars had to be road going and in the state of tune as when they were sold, so to win you needed to pick the right car. I.e my Scimitar was in the 3,000cc and above class but of course had very little power 165bhp? say compared to a porsche 911! or xjs all in the same class. At the time I think an old lotus elan did well and there was an xjs which of course also did well. I guess your bmw would be good as they raced them in the 70's?? so it should have a reasonble amout of power.

Ive just come back from Goodwood, and REALLY want to do this now. My aim is to get a Lotus Cortina and race it at this very event.

How was it then? Always wanted to get down for the Revival, never made it yet
Did you go in period dress by any chance?!

BTW, any news on the driver of the C-type that crashed?

Didnt go in period dress, the date sneaked up on me so i didnt get a chance to get organised. It was fantastic though, the sight of a 7.0 Ford Falcon powersliding through the bends being chased by a Mini Cooper is a something to behold!
Go along next year but wear period dress, you feel like the odd one out there if you dont!!

"Period Dress" doesn't take that much effort. All gents have to do is wear a suit or jacket & tie and "sensible" shoes. Essentially all that is banned are -
trainers
logo t-shirts
base ball caps

Even then, the period dress restrictions only apply to the paddock area.

Im not one of the knobs who were wandering around with Burberry caps and trainers. I wore a suit like i have every year, and the paddock area is restricted to GRRC members of which i am one.

Trouble is, Elms, you'll need the right car, so that you get invited. That ex Jim Clark Cortina that sold at auction recently for £94,000 should have done.

The Revival was fantastic again. We love dressing up (ahem). The event is just a total sensory overload. The attention to detail, the work, the effort, is beyond belief. It's my number one yearly event now, and has replaced Le Mans in my affections.

As for the Festival of Speed, they are giving serious consideration to limiting the number of tickets to reduce the crowds.

Good idea!
The only bad point is struggling to see any action if you go to the FOS on the Sunday, the crowd is ofter 5 people thick at most viewing points.
